To me, the alcohol seems only suboptimally integrated. Update 24.06.2022:Today, the rum still seems to me a bit too brute on the palate, but for that I taste no annoying finish, certainly not sweet wine, but just, as it should be, graphite (pencil shavings).A rum with dry charm and character.Because I tasted the RX1378 in parallel, I held that on the palate stubbornly for this SBS (keyword "heavy sweetness") . 🥴🙈 One may convict me of the grandiose error! 🙏😉

Still relatively sweet on the nose, then dominated on the palate by spices and metallic notes. Good, but not completely convincing and in my opinion not fully balanced in taste.

A maturation in sweet wine barrels is always such a thing... can make a mediocre rum better, but for me it is mostly nix. Nose: spicy, woody, fruity and sweetish. It comes through right away, the Marsala finish. Behind the sweetness, which is already a tad too much for me, many flavors come through. Lovely cherry wood, lightly toasted, Marashino cherry, dried apricot, pipe tobacco with vanilla, strong maple syrup. Palate: much rounder than expected. Strong and spicy, woody and toasty without being unpleasantly bitter. Slightly salty with nutmeg. The finish mellows out the Diamond nicely. Overall I don't think it's bad, nose a bit too sweet, palate pleasantly round. ABV fits very well.

I would say that for Guyana this is quite a young rum, although it is true that s.b.s bottlings often bring that. In this case the nose is mainly cask, the taste comes in round, warming with a pleasant alcohol. After a second it vibrates the tongue and the mouth is flooded with smoky wood. Pleasant.

Oak, aniseed, herbs, distinctive vanilla aromas and a subtle sweetness are perceptible on the nose. The sweetness and the pronounced vanilla remind me more of a Column Guyaner than a Versailles rum. So it's not quite a typical Versailles nose as I know it. On the palate, a bitterness is immediately noticeable, which increasingly turns into sweetness, paired with oak, cinnamon and herbs. At 62.8%, the alcohol is well integrated, the rum even seems mild, although it can't compete with older rums from 1990. There are brief flashes of sweet orange aromas in the finish, but they disappear again very quickly. All in all, a good rum. 83 points
