Flor de Caña 7 Años Gran Reserva
Over ice or in a rum and cola is where most people put this Nicaraguan column-still rum. Expect vanilla, hazelnut, dry oak and a spicy, distinctly bourbon-leaning note, with a sharp alcohol edge that keeps it from being a smooth neat pour. Several tasters call it a decent budget mixer that's a bit thin and one-note on its own.

Aggregated from 119 community reviews.
Dry, bourbon-like everyday mixing rum Most see it as a dry, spicy weeknight mixer — fine in cola or an old fashioned, but too harsh and thin to shine neat. A few prefer the younger 4 and 5 year.

My brother had never tried the bottle on the shelf, so please. The nose is still the best here, with a good hint of cognac. On the palate mainly rum raisin and somewhat thin taste. Certainly usable for a rum cola.
Review by LukaŽiga
6:On the nose it is rather well-balanced and fruity, with a light banana note that wafts over ethereal notes. It's relatively consistent, with notes faithful to this category of light molasses rums: vanilla, nuts, caramel. It's not overly full-bodied and holds up well over time. Aeration develops the roasted nuts, and this roasted side opens up to coffee. The rum has gained in darkness and bite. We retain the idea of a light rum, which has drawn all it can from the toastiness of the barrel. 5,9:On the palate, the attack is in tune with the nose, so light, it passes stealthily by, dancing on the taste buds with its ethereal quality. Nuts and wood remain suspended, never settling in. 5,7:The finish is light, with toasty wood and a few roasted spices lingering for a few moments..

Pure not so mine, nice nose but too sharp in taste. To mix but a cheap and good rum

The only rum at the Christmas market that you could get at the Nicaragua stand. I had it in cocoa and grog as an update. It works there. Probably not so good neat.

Notes from 25.04.2018: Travel souvenir from a good friend that was opened directly. Fruit and vanilla on the nose, then sweet in the mouth with some fruit and a clear alcohol note. Pure well in the cola then it goes.

Budget sipper

Reconstructed from a note:For pure enjoyment only limitedly recommended. In the nose mainly wood, some vanilla, spice and clear alcohol. A lot of power, little depth. In the mouth, the impression is confirmed: not a sweet, rather a strong, spicy rum.In the cocktail, for what I bought it, it remains despite only 40% still present, shows its dark, spicy flavors and is happy about lime or grapefruit, harmonizes well with Cherry Brandy or Falernum, without making the liqueurs invisible.

Fairly complex column still rum. Good flavors. Spicy nuttiness. Nice finish. Ok nose. From memory not a lot more enjoyable than the four year, but a bit more complex on the flavors.
Review by Buddudharma
Noch dünner und nichtssagender als seine älteren Brüder. Abgang nicht existent. Selbst für Cocktails nicht zu empfehlen, da viel zu schwachbrüstig und ausdrucksschwach.

All my Tastings and Scores are purely based on “Rums under £50”. I rarely look at Rums over £50 for my YouTube.
Review by MaddenC11
A dry rum, not overly sweet with a woodyness and notes of caramel of spice. A tad bit harsh. Not a bad sipper for the price but certainly not my first choice.
Review by Decky Hicks Doughty
A subtle nose. Vanilla and hazelnut are most present with a little wood. Sometimes floral in the background. The palate keeps the hazelnuts from the nose. The vanilla is more subtle on the palate. Alcohol quite sharp. Finish is short. The hazelnuts hang around for at least a few seconds. A little sharp and beyond that somewhat boring. Not one I'd buy.
Review by wrighty03
Spice much more prominent than 5yo, not as smooth as 5 too, still perfectly nice and worked well mixed.
Review by Adam Rajchert
Mimo niedoskonałości w neat sipping, ma zadatki na dobry mixer do drinków. Kiedyś zrobiłem na tym bardzo smaczne muddy mojito. Zapach: espresso, orzech laskowy, karmel, ziele angielskie, cynamon, rodzynki, suszone brzoskwinie Smak: wodnisty, espresso, karmel, orzechy, drewno, alkohol, suszone brzoskwinie, rodzynki, wanilia, gałka muszkatołowa Finisz drewno, przyprawy, rodzynki, kawa

I always love Flor de Cana 7 year, even more than the 12 year. Florals and oak. A little honey. Golden amber pour. A touch of tangerine on the finish.
Review by Marcus Ekornes
An alright rum, considering the 12 year old is very similar in price, I would never reach for this again

Mostly sweet rum with a decent nose. A little above an average rum. Well rounded and short but smooth finish

Read full review →With Flor De Cana 7 you feel you are drinking a "stiff drink" but also one that is refined, well aged and nicely blended. I really like this as a mixer and would definitely recommend it for a more punchy Rum and Cola. It works on quite a few different...
