Well-liked but not worshipped — most tasters land around "very good, not thrilling." This old TDL leans woody with yellow fruits, roasted nuts and chocolate, plus the dirty tar-and-medicinal edge several call a "continental Caroni." At 62.6% the alcohol reads well-integrated to most, though a couple wanted it tighter. The complaint that keeps coming up: the cask muffles the distillate a little.

On the nose the 24y and 25y Cadenhead‘s bottling are very close. Woody and some umami notes with a hint of fruity notes (grapes). On the plate both are again similar: Quite balanced on the palate with more vanilla and sweetness as well as fruits. The 25y gravitates a bit mir towards roasted and woody notes. Both very enjoyable.

Rather disappointing release from the 1991 vintage. There are sometimes small highlights hidden here (note the "small"), because HTR notes can be detected in the blends - but as long as it remains with the rather subordinate influences that are evident in this bottling, the influence on the overall profile remains too negligible. Accordingly, there are more notes of the Spanish style here, wood, sweetness, spices - it's basically drinkable, but only appeals to me to a limited extent.

8,5:On the nose, the wood is roasted, toasted with smoke and burnt sugar. Bourbon yellow fruits, dried fruits are mixed with medicinal notes as plastic, wax and tar. Aeration brings out caramelized roasted nuts, cappuccino, vanilla and perhaps toffee notes and perfume Umami comes out after nice rest, as honeyed molasses and tropical fruits with maracuja, citrus as mandarine. Later we could find marzipan and tea also. All is balanced and complex. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity and spicy with syrupy yellow fruits, citrus like mandarine and pepper, roasted wood and salty. We get nice, tasty chocolate, roasted nuts, vanilla in play with medicinal notes as tar, plastic, petrol. After some rest, tannins are present, the rum becomes dry and after darker with molasses, black tea, licorice and dried currants Complex and round. 8,6:The finish is long, woody and fruity with dried fruits, dry. The palate notes linger on, tannins also stay... Very pleasant rum 🙂👍...

#4978 16.12.2024 Enjoying a few samples at home. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, light nutts, dried fruit, faint marzipan, light chocolate. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, nutts, light medicinal, faint tar, light tannins, medium dry, dried fruit, spice. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light chocolate, light tar, light medicinal, medium dry. The empty glass has light caramel, citrus and licorice.

In direct comparison with the 25y bottling on an almost identical level. Caroni influence clearly noticeable. Typical notes are recognizable, but do not completely dominate. The alcohol integration should be much better here to be able to rate it higher. Nevertheless, a solid rum.

Today there are 3x T.D.L 1st Cadenhead's 1991, 24yo: Typical T.D.L profile. More on the woody side with yellow fruits. The alcohol is well integrated. The usual dirty notes are also present. The finish is quite dry and medium-long, with increasingly dirty aromas. It lacks a little complexity. 85 pts. 2nd Rome Deluxe 2002, 20yo: Equally typical T.D.L profile. This time much less wood and not as dirty, but much fruitier. The alcohol is very well integrated, petrol mint in the long finish. Reminds me off the top of my head of the 2009 T.D.L from TheWhiskyJury. Very tasty! Now I'll have to find a whole bottle of it =P 88 pts. 3rd Blackadder 2005, 16 yo: A bottling that I didn't have on my radar until now. It also goes more in the dirty direction. There is no trace of bright fruit here. A great contrast to the Rome Deluxe. The finish is sharp compared to the other two, and the alcohol is not as well integrated. More complex than the Cadenheads. Too bad about the spicy note, but still a great rum that might develop well in the bottle! 85 pts.

And the next Cadenheads bottlekill. Again, from my point of view, the bottler leaves nothing to be desired. The typical TDL notes are present on the nose. On the palate, also the great TDL notes. I also have notes of a Caroni and find it really very good!

Very nice tdl, but I imagined it differently. Here you can see very well that the older does not always mean the better. Here I find the cask a little too dominant as it drowns out the distillate's own flavor
