Whisky Krüger Port Mourant Rendsburger Bürgermeister Rum PM 1975

Thick, oily molasses and old varnished wood hit first, then leather, tobacco, dried plum and a bitter-orange edge — the whole old Demerara spectrum. Distilled in 1975 at Port Mourant and left 32 years in cask, so the wood runs deep, almost too deep for one taster. Most who tried it call it a serious, concentrated 70s PM with the alcohol beautifully folded in.

Extremely impressive when enjoyed straight from a fresh bottle. Extremely complex with dark fruits, woody notes, spices, leather, tobacco...the whole spectrum of the old Demerara world. A pleasure.

Incredibly intense and complex. In the nade a great, extremely harmonious composition of prune, leather, coffee notes and glue. On the palate incredibly intense, oily and toasty. Great sweetness. A pleasant bitterness is added on the finish. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. An outstanding Demerara from the 1970s!

Absolute high-end Port Mourant with impressive complexity. Deep wood aromas, dark fruits, and intense spice notes shape the profile. The heavy, almost oily sweetness is excellently integrated, accompanied by nuances of leather, tobacco, and black tea. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, a benchmark for this style and vintage.

A sample collected at the German Rum Festival in 2024. A full, noble, deep and balanced nose (old varnished wood, leather and smoke). One immediately senses that this is an exceptional experience. Wood and smoke share the first palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The aromas then evolve towards dried fruit and prunes, leather and old varnished wood. Despite the woody bitterness, the finish is balanced, powerful and refined. A firework display of flavors and flavors here. An exceptional rum, and its reputation is richly deserved! Tasted again at the Spirits Museum tasting and still just as good.

Blind tasting Franconian Tasting Course: Dark pot still profile. Bitter in the finish but before that a great dark old school profile with everything that goes with it. Clearly Guyana, probably PM? Very tasty and rich.

GRF13: Sample from RhumAuctioneer The third old Port Mourant...and what a one...despite its age...an absolutely terrific stuff...complex, elegant and creamy. That's what I like and enjoy rum so much for...there should be a lot more of it and it should be affordable!

Edit: Tasted it again today thanks to Jakob. I'm sticking with a real cracker for me. Rating confirmed. One of the highlights of the evening for me. What a cracker of a rum. This one completely won me over. The first rating in the blind tasting was a 9.3, but compared to the other highlights, this rating is unfortunately not enough to give a fair picture. Corrected upwards.

Grenade! Divine stuff. Violets, pure bitter molasses, grapefruit peel, cocoa nibs, leather couch... And so much more. Heavy dark and oily. Really crazy stuff, thanks for the opportunity, awesome!

A real gem, bottled at the rarities stand at the 13th GRF, expensive, but worth every penny. Now I'm finally taking the time... Nose: oh how beautiful the old Demeraras are! An intense and dense complex of aromas flows towards me. At first, liquorice molasses overwhelms, dark, malty-roasted and woody-spicy. Old, dry wooden floorboards and cardboard versus intensely fragrant cedar wood, tobacco and leather. Behind this, dark fruit, blackcurrant and sour cherry and even more prune, dried apricot and bitter orange. Over time, brown caramel with a hint of chocolate, herbs and violets assert themselves. A real experience. 9,6 Palate: oha, you can taste the 32 years in the barrel. Incredibly intense and concentrated. Powerfully woody, dark roasted and spicy. Intense cedar and sandalwood. Salty and bitter at the start, almost burnt or charred, with nutmeg and caraway, lots of wood acidity, plus mocha and plenty of molasses. I assume that the barrel had quite a shot of molasses in it. This is followed by herbs, liquorice and tobacco, before the fruit tones also get a chance. Dried apricot, prune and blackcurrant. There is almost too much wood, but in this composition, with these beautiful roasted, spicy and fruity aromas and the excellently integrated alcohol, it is truly a pleasure. 9,2

A very good rum, but for me personally by far not the best 75er Port Mourant. It doesn't have the density and depth of other PMs for me. Although it has a lot of what you expect with dried plum, wet wood and molasses syrup, it also seems somewhat unharmonious in places with lots of herbs, roasted aromas and licorice. Not a Port Mourant for which I would pay the current prices.

Wow what a color and great intense nose. Red berries and wood that don't overpower each other. And even on the palate brutally intense. This thing is just insanely fun. Huge thanks to the guys from RhumAuction for bringing it to Rumfest and sharing it.

Franconian Rum Tasting Gang & Jakob, 2023-07-27 Part 2: My first impression: Black tea, herbs, herbal and musty notes. Behind that, dried fruit, wood, some sweetness from caramel. It continues similarly on the palate. Nice, long finish.

I feel very lucky to be able to try such rarity! So the bottle writes "distilled in Port Mourant", but considering it was bottled in 1975 - 7 years after the PM distillery closed - it was most likely distilled in Albion. It's a dried plum bomb, followed by leather and dark chocolate. This is one my favorite profile, however I'm not gonna go higher than 9'4 because the texture could be thicker and the finale is shorter than I'd wish.

What a delicious, complex, full-bodied, intense PM Demerara rum this is. A full, oily, intense flavor with an endless finish. Coffee, roasted nuts, leather, black tea, cocoa / dark chocolate, oak, plums, raisins, and caramel as sweetness; the entire portfolio passes by in the mouth and very long finish, what a delight! Pure quality

Nose- Demerara combined with Saint James. (sour) Taste- round and integrated Demerara, intensive with full taste. Leather and brown dried fruit - plumps, raisins. Maybe not so dried fruit- the raisins are sour. The taste stays long in mouth.

A truly noble drop. On the nose, first dried fruits with plum and raisins, somewhat alcoholic. On the palate, roasted notes like tobacco and leather come first with a slight bitterness. The finish is a bit fruity.

At one point in time, these old demeraras will be gone and as of today nothing of the newer releases ever reach the level of these vintage rums. A complexity and richness of its own that stands out. Red fruits, marzipan, the typical plum flavors, wood, leather and dark chocolate and espresso in an ever changing dance of flavors on nose and palate. An endless finish and if it once comes to the last rum you will drink, may be it should be this one.

Extremely powerful attack on the palate! The rum is absolutely magnificent and incredibly long! It's an absolutely perfect 1975 rum! In the finish, you feel a bit of the wood's bitterness! Notes of prunes.

Fantastic PM. Elegant aristocratic nose! Once I open the sample air was full of prunes, caffe and oak. What a palate! So balanced, complex, charismatic character. Tobacco, oak, prunes, raisins, caramel, chocolate, tobacco. Extremely well integrated. Orchestra in the glass. Some bitternes is also present. One need to retaste for more to detect. Looong finish filled with prunes, wood, black tea and rather strong (for me) bitterness. This is very expensive stuff but top level rum.
