Sip this neat and it hits like nothing else on the shelf: bacon, smoke, iodine and lemon, with the Jack Daniels cask adding a peaty whisky edge. One member calls it "liquid Hamka's crisps" — savoury, cheesy, a little wild. Yet it stays surprisingly soft on the palate for all that funk, with pineapple and a salty, vegetal finish underneath.

Comparative series of ansyans Clairins. Quite a rough nose with medicine, whiskey, vegetal and a bit of oil. A surprisingly smooth mouthfeel when I was expecting a lot of strength. Vegetal and caramel. The finish is quite long and dominated by smoked/coated whisky. A very good rum but the rum and whisky flavours collide a bit without finding harmony.

A slightly fruity medicinal aroma, somewhat of ester and citrus. The taste is slightly fruity, slightly smoky, slightly spicy in the finish.

Beautiful clairin with ideal drinking strength and very subtle bourbon maturation, rather smoky. Very intense with overripe fruit, some cheese associations (crazy, but pleasant) and great creaminess. Really fun.

31.07.2020 Enjoying our summer holiday at this nice resort having friends over for barbecue and rum. Notes Light in colour. Nose Fresh, faint wood, balanced, light olives, fruits, light floral, citrus, vegetal. Palate Round, fresh, pineapple, floral, light caramel, salty, light olive, pineapple, light vegetal. Finish Medium long, round, fruits, light orange, salty, light wood.

Very interesting thing. The Jack Daniel's barrel really comes into its own. With a few % more, this would have been a real winner.

Cross-tasting aged Clairins: Le Rocher 27 months ex-whisky (RX4411) Casimir 27 months ex-whisky (RX12073) Ansyen 27 months ex-whisky (RX12072) The nose still strongly reminds of the unaged Clairin, rightly called "cheese foot" back then, only a bit tamer. Instead more towards yogurt and compared to the unaged a bit more fruit than olive. You also smell some smoke, certainly from the Jack Daniels bourbon aging. And now to the taste: Wow, like the unaged Clairin a somewhat ugly filthy unicorn among typical rums. Bacon, smoke, iodine, lemon and peat. Sounds strange, tastes like that too. But somehow also interesting and different, but definitely no palate caresser. Conclusion: the messed up Le Rocher is not something you can or want to drink often, but is really the most exciting. I wouldn't finish a bottle of it alone. But now and then to really beat up the palate very interesting. Today the winner of the comparison. Soon to follow Vaval 22 months, Sajous 22 months, Sajous 5Y ex-Caroni

Now, Le Rocher can be a divise Clairin but I love it. For me it is almost like liquid Hamka's crisps. The biggest flavors I get are cheese, ham/bacon and smoke. This stuff remains soft while delivering these savoury notes. This is very enjoyable. It does not lose much of its original vavoom.
