Sipped neat on a sunny afternoon is where this Réunion agricole makes most sense. Expect tropical fruit, hay, sugar cane and a spicy, slightly woody core, with vanilla, cinnamon and a round coffee-cocoa finish. The recurring gripe: several tasters call it thin and a touch over-reduced, so it "slides off the palate" fast. Pleasant and easy, just not deep.

Warm, good drinking strength. Honey, floral, orange blossom, vanilla and raisin (tasting notes from Grand Whisky). Very good sipper, good value for money. So, now calmly the sample I took along. Fruity, spicy, rusty. Finely balanced, well melted, good drinking strength. A bit of tar. The nose is awesome. On the palate then very spicy and somehow strange. Long, great finish. Very nice Agricole, easy to drink.

Have had this bottle for quite a while and now was a perfect day to taste it on a sunny afternoon out in the Stockholm archipelago. Rivière du mât Opus 5 is a blend of five different agricultural rums aged for a minimum of 6 years with an average age of 8 years. This is the first time I taste an Agricole from Rivière du Mat. Only tasted molasses rum from them earlier. Overall it’s better than OK, but can’t match Savanna Agricole’s which is still the best Agricole’s from La Reunion in my opinion. On the nose it’s fruity, woody, spicy and floral with aromas of tropical fruits, hay and grass. On the palate it’s fruity and spicy with flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, sugar cane and pepper. The medium long finish is round with flavors of coffee, caramel and cocoa.

Short trip Reunion September 2024 To end the day after the long journey, there's the Riviere du Mat Opus 5. By far the best of the day (which wasn't hard :-)). Great fruity and woody nose. On the palate, it becomes a bit spicy. Good rum.

Tasted at Spirits Days in Tournai, quick notes: Nose: more oriented towards cognac? very fruity Palate: quite a bit of spices and tannins Finish: chocolate, very round like honey In short: spicier and more marked, maybe a bit less balanced for me.

More interesting than the other rums from the range and an Agricole. Nose is a bit flat and doesn’t give much aware, with effort some tropical fruits and hay. Mouth is well balanced and not super intense, iodine and some caramel alongside shortbread. Finish is longer but still short and brings coffee, honey and some faint metallic notes. It’s not uninteresting and picks up some good sipping notes just a bit in between to score higher
