This is interesting one.. After reading all the nice informations on the bottle, I expected a lot more from this one! This is more like a dry clarendon and more on the woodier side. The alcohol is integrated well. To be honest, the price per value rating is horrible…

Not my cup of tea. No fruit at all, a lot of wood and spices and a lot of medical, glue, polish notes that drink side are even stronger than on the nose. Not pleasant at all, I can barely finish 2cl in an afternoon

Initially restrained on the nose, then sweet and sour, fermented! Pure spice on the palate! The alcohol is not well integrated! The rum is rather mediocre

Cool Velier and Scheer E.A. project. 11yr old Wedderburn one cask continentially aged one tropical. Difference in colour is very noticable. The tropical one is much darker + more alcohol. Wedderburn/monymusk is pretty outspoken heavy rum. Not easy. The tropical one leans heavy on the chemical funk.

A fruity chocolate fondue on the nose, then the freshness of my mouthwash mixed with metal braces on the palate. It is super interesting to see the comparison between tropical and continental maturation, but the bottlings are simply not what you are "used to" from Velier.

The nose is nice and fruity with esters, wood and spices. In the followup sips I get polish and tobacco. The palate is well balanced, slightly dry and bitter with a wood/fruity start going into spicy pepper. The finish is long and again slightly bitter and dry with barrel and spicy pepper. A nice sipper overall.

Velier project where you have a unique opportunity to compare two identical barrels, same age, from the same distillery. Basically siblings, where one stayed in the Caribbean and was aged tropically, while the other was aged continentally in Europe. An extraordinary opportunity.

Nose: Fermented pineapple as the most striking representative of the tropical fruits. Varnish, herbs and a fresh note alongside the opulent alcohol presence. Palate: The freshness remains, otherwise all the aromas of the nose can be found again. There is also wood and a clear bitterness. Finish: Cocoa, bitter, honey. Conclusion: Thicker, sweeter and more alcoholic than its continental brother. I don't warm to this representative of the series either. Too little Jamaica, too much pepper. A clear rejection.

07-03-2026 - Rate 8.2 Whiskymessen Kolding 2026 This one is more me. Like the tropical vibe over this one. Thicker nose and taste. More oily and power of the these. Can really taste the high ABV. I prefer this one from the EMB bottle.

Raisin-rich nose with vanilla, and a touch of industrial funk. The palate hits you with minty dried herbs, then finishes long, creamy, and complex with liquorice and musk. Drinks more like a spicy TDL than Jamaica. Youthful but well-balanced, and better than it showed on our club tasting night when it took the wooden spoon, when just opened! It really transformed /opened up over a few weeks in the little sample bottle, a good hour in the glass & a drip of water!

I didn't think I'd like the tropical aging as much as the continental, but unfortunately all that's left here is a lot of alcohol, bitter iodine ointment and burnt, charred wood and metal and plastic. absolutely not my thing. even after an hour of breathing, unfortunately nothing changes for the better here! even a few drops unfortunately don't change much here ...
