29.01.2022 The big Caroni tasting with old rum buddies, good food, snacks and a lot of talking about old times. Very similar to RX5133 Notes Dark in colour. Nose Round, wood, light smoke, fruity, banana, workshop, light mint, light leather. Palate Fresh, wood, light smoke, dried fruit, leather, mint, floral, workshop, medium dry. Finish Long, medium dry, wood, citrus, light chocolate.

A rum tasted at Whisky Live Paris in 2025. A nose softer than the WP white, more indulgent and more pastry-like. The softness of the nose is not found on the palate. Whoa! Just like the WP white, powerful flavors here carried by a slightly better integrated alcohol. Lots of mechanical workshop and smoked wood, the fruits are nice but remain in the background. The finish is also more powerful than the white, meatier and it lasts just as long with the mechanical workshop notes in the spotlight. Two very nice rums, sold expensively at auction and I understand why.

A Caroni that has clearly turned to the dark side. The nose is powerful, heavily invested with roasted, smoky, and bitter notes that will suffocate your nostrils. Tar, rubber, oak, and black pepper follow one another before softer notes of cooked caramel and toffee add a bit of roundness. A very dark and intense nose but maybe lacking a touch of subtlety. The attack on the palate is manly and muscular, you feel this grilled and smoky side full on. The profile tastes burnt, even carbonized, as if hydrocarbons were heating up and the wood was burning. The spices (black pepper) and caramel bring back some sensation in the mouth with this thick and overwhelming rum. The alcohol is well integrated overall. The finish is even more abrupt. It’s not the longest but the hard line of a dry, dirty, and astringent Caroni stands out here. The wood meets the dark and empyreumatic side, leather, and toffee so as to leave nothing behind in the mouth. A very focused Caroni, maybe a bit too much, but revealing beautiful structural qualities.

Beautiful 1998 Caroni with a multi-layered aroma - in addition to the classic dirty HTR notes, tropical fruits, sweetness of caramel and vanilla, as well as tart spicy notes of barrel and allspice are recognizable here. Appealing complexity and balance.

💥 Enmore 1994: a slap! Everything fits wonderfully, with an incredible length on notes of raspberry and blueberry. Clearly the best REV 1994 I've tasted so far — my big favorite of the tasting ❤️ Just behind, the TDL 2002, perfectly balanced, unfolds a superb peach thread. A real treat! 🍑 Interesting comparison between the two Caroni 1998, with a preference for the red label. The white label even presented some notes... of smoked ham 😉 The Savanna 2007 remained well concentrated and aromatic, the New Yarmouth 2009 offered a nice length on a slight woodiness, and the Diamond 2001 seduced with its gourmand and pastry side, reminiscent of an El Dorado Skeldon. In summary, a very nice series overall, except for the Fiji, with a really too atypical profile — clearly the least convincing of The Wild Parrot bottlings tasted so far.
