Plantation Single Cask 1997
Opinions divide sharply here, and it comes down to one thing: the peated whisky finish. Some tasters were braced for a mess and got a pleasant surprise; others just find it strange. Expect smoke, dried fruit, a little caramel sweetness and a long, smoky finish. One reviewer called it his "favourite of rums extra matured in Islay casks." You have to be in the mood for it.

The surprise of the evening. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy the Islay finish (having found it disgusting in another rum) but this was really enjoyable. It was subtle enough and added to the rum rather than overpowering and destroying it.

Impressive smoked style rum. You really have to be in the mood for this. I am not a “smoke aficionado”, otherwise I would have set the score closer to 90.
