Typical and also very good Versailles, nicely balanced. Good blend of wood, herbs, fruit and pencil.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the cask strength / 50%+ ABV bottlings in the line up (CG, DT, Duchess, Greenheart I & II, RdL, Sponge, TWJ), all deliver on the classic Versailles notes: Pencil, herbs/anis, some continental fruits and a wet/moldy woodiness. Quality wise I don’t see an outlier tbh, all very enjoyable. Noticeable, however, is a very intense nose on the Sponge, which adds lots of resin and „woody“ notes to the mix, probably paying tribute to its (partly) maturation in wine casks. This is clearly outstanding out of the batch. Bonus points for the older Greenheart and TWJ for highest intensity on the (continental) fruit notes for me. DT and The Duchess gravitating more towards spicy notes in the mix. Same overall verdict for the palate. All rums in the batch are of high quality and there is no dramatic outlier (good or bad), except for the Rum Sponge. While I enjoyed the nose, on the palate the bottling is overwhelmed by wine notes. As for a lot of finished/double matured releases I just don’t see the point and here don’t like it particularly. Among the other bottlings: the DT is particularly nicely balanced with a pleasant sweetness working nicely with herbal and more darker notes. Very enjoyable. My favorite on the palate is probably the younger Greenheart (at least in this sitting). Almost as balanced as the DT but with a bit more anise and herbal notes for a bit more excitement. The older Greenheart is also very nice, with a bit less sweetness yet also very nicely balanced. TWJ and The Duchess are overall a bit more in the harsher side concerning alcohol integration, yet still very good. Very strong bottlings of the vinatage overall and a pleasure to have some side by side. Cheers to Alex for curating (most of) the tasting set! 🙌

Subsequent tasting of the rum from 21.12. from the 2023 RumX calendar: Somehow I find it difficult to find this rum really good. What bothers me most is this initial unexpected sweetness that covers the herbs like a film. This sweetish film gradually disappears, but I still can't quite warm to this rum. One of the weaker Enmores of the 1990 vintage.

RumX Calendar Day 21 At first I had also guessed Guyana. Then it was Caroni Tasting and Christmas Meeting. So I sipped the last drops from the glass 5 hours later. Can that be LEAD? All in all, very good

This is a great rum. As soon as you pop the bottle the fruits are there and once rested the smoky wood just comes at you. Very fruity with menthol and leather on top. A very complex and well balanced rum. Luckily I have two of these bottles available :-)

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 21 Joyful on the nose, combining wood spice and old leather jacket with dried apricots, popcorn and dry curacao. If anything, it’s sweeter than what I’m used to. Sitting still, this Enmore is musty and mineral with long-steeped green tea and clay. Agitated the aroma is much different than when idle. Immediately after swirling; a plethora of flowers and following in its steps: bicycle tube and citrus oils. Vastly different, but a welcome surprise and an absolute treat. Very elegant entry with marzipan, dried apricots and orange peel in the mouth before dropping an overwhelming flavor bomb of spice, cask char, leather and bitter chocolate. Moderate length. Initially especially floral and specifically pleasant, then quickly woody and overly dry. My only point of critique being: much too dry, as I found myself snacking for water. I found many of the other reviews much too harsh. Take your time with this one.

RumX Adventskalender 2023 Tag 21

Rum X Advent 21.12.2023 Was blind at a Guyana, tends to be Uitvlugt. More on the continental side. But somehow also PM. Overall, the rum doesn't convince me, is rather too inharmonious. Strong wood and herbal notes and the alcohol is rather biting, despite the low ABV. I was thinking of a young bottling (<10 years). At best one of those colorful blends with PM and Uitvlugt from El Dorado itself.

Good Enmore profile, integrated. I preffer stronger taste ... Enmore - drive destilerka, nyni uz jen funkcni destilacni zarizeni. Patrne jedine drevene destilacni zarizeni na svete, ktere se tesi velke oblibe. Rumy Enmore totiz maji prichut popelu, kuze, tezkeho dreva, coz nadchne zejmena milovniky nakourenych whisky. A pokud tradicnim Guyanskym zpusobem prida vyrobce do rumu trochu melasy, mate v lahvi unikatni velmi vyrazny a tezky rum. Jeden z mych oblibenych.

RumX Advent calendar day 21 A typical Demerara profile, sweetness, aniseed and wet cardboard, but nonetheless it's not interesting, just missing any interesting note that can make the sipping experience exciting. Not unpleasant, just meh. But when it comes to Demerara, you always expect something more
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
RX calendar day 21 Strong barrel influence though bitterness, at the same time not intense in flavour or finish, kind of light. Burnt matches taste, medicinal.
