09.02.2024 Nordlichter treffen. Retasting and I still like it a lot so I'll stick to my initial score. ------------------ 19. 01.2019 A nice evening with colleagues from all over Denmark. Notes. Very dark in colour. Nose Intense, wood, roasted, citrus, raisin, anise. Palate Oily, wood, roasted, anise, raisin, light chocolate, light smoke,plum. Finish Long, wood, smoke, citrus, chocolate.

After the euphoric review at SCR, I bought it at auction - normally Marius meets my taste very well, especially with PMs. This rum has never really been able to meet my very high expectations, even after I was extremely impressed by the 1999 RN SBRR. Let's see if that changes today. Compared to the Karaya and the 1998 Sponge that I still have in my glass, the opening is completely different. Instead of black tea, herbs and light apple, I'm greeted by the sherry cask with shear wood and polish notes. Beyond that, the profile is difficult for me to grasp. I would say jammy dark berries and a hint of mint. The prominent spices of the other two bottlings are almost completely absent. In the mouth, the differences to the other two '98 PMs are less pronounced, although here too the sherry cask is the overriding aroma. Behind this, the dominant black tea is easy to make out. It is accompanied by plum in juicy and dried form. I find a smokiness that the other two do not have. The finish is surprisingly short compared to the Karaya and the Sponge and there is a somewhat unpleasant acidity in the mouth at the end. I usually love the dark PMs, but this one doesn't completely win me over. Compared to the old colored Demeraras, the fruit here lacks the compote-like crumbliness, the dark flavors are too berry, fresh and sour. This is still a very good rum, but for me the sherry takes the lead here too clearly and makes the distillate rather flat.

Intense notes of dark chocolate, leather, and spices. On the palate strong, with oak, cocoa, spices, and tobacco. Long, dry finish with fine bitterness and spicy depth. Beautiful matured rum.

A very intense and spicy Port Mourant. The nose is excitingly fruity and spicy. The sherry influence emphasizes caramel, tropical fruits and licorice. On the palate it offers a real richness of cocoa, black tea, plum and dried fruits. Then the spectrum moves into a spicy direction, defined by tobacco, smoke, leather and wood. The medium to long finish lives from its intensely fruity and spicy side, which additionally shows cocoa, menthol, roasted aromas and something metallic. A very interesting and worthwhile rum from Guyana. Thanks to @Dr.Django for the sample 😀

Fine fruit, especially citrus with a subtle sweetness. Beautiful cocoa notes in the mouth, spice, a little mint. Well-integrated alcohol and a herbal finish at the end. Nice Port Mourant profile, although a little something is missing.

Properly malty, with cocoa and sherry influence. Feels like tannins in the finish and something burnt. Tropical fruits, rubber, menthol, leather, wood influence and dried fruits with black tea and plum. Yes, versatile and very pleasant. Has a certain heaviness. Tasty, though not fully my profile.

It is amazing how well the combination of PM and high-quality sherry casks works. Where in other rums the distillate is often overwhelmed by the sherry cask or the aromas simply seem applied, here you discover a very harmonious and fine interplay of dried and tropical fruits, dark chocolate, tobacco and leather as well as malt and licorice.

Wowww. Very good Demerara. I love it. Full of fruits on the nose, tropical, yellow fruits, lots of cocoa, beautiful complexity, that makes you travel to another time. This juice is superb. You also find a bit of leather and tobacco.

Great dark PM. A great mix of yellow fruit and cocoa on the nose. Then more cocoa in the mouth, some dried fruit and just dark overall. Uncomplicated and delicious, makes a great daily sipper

Closed on the nose, benefiting from some time in the air. A tick of something that I perceive as sulphur. Then still closed on the palate. Is that sulphur or is it more dried fruit? With a little time and a few drops of water, it opens up a little more. Not bad, but not a favorite.

I don't know if I'm influenced because I know there's a sherry finish but I feel it on the nose and palate and I find it overwhelms the rum's aromas which don't seem extraordinary to me. It's round, easy to drink but a bit cloying.

The best for me usually comes from Guyana. Always incredible complexity and intensity. Fruity and funky nose with dark sherry and strongly roasted aromas. The toast notes even turn into the dark crust of a high-quality farmhouse bread on the palate. That should please any whisky fan. Old machine grease is also an interesting part of the bokeh and the nice finish is accompanied by iodine and metal.
