Anyone who likes a soft column-still rum with a wine-cask twist should look here. The Madeira finish runs the show: raisin, honey, chocolate and oak over a mild 5-year base. Several tasters call it "nicely round," a few find it too sweet, and one or two hit a bitter, winey edge that doesn't land for them. Balanced and easy rather than bold.

Overall a very well balanced and full bodied rum from a great distillery. When I was in Antigua some years ago I was pleased with a guided tour at the distillery and their aging house guided by a fantastic guide who origins from Madeira and is related to the founders of the brand. She told me that Madeira Cask Finish is the one of the three cask finished they’re most pleased with in batch 001. I’ve tasted the batch 002 some years ago and rated it 8+. The nose is great with aromas of fruits, honey, vanilla, wood and Madeira. At the palate the aromas of fruits, vanilla and Madeira comes back but there also flavors of smoke, oak and chocolate.

22.08.2025 Retasting and I still like it. Price to quality at release was pretty good in my mind. Also does pretty well in a cola. --------------- 08.12.2018 Had a wonderful meet up with old and new friends at this wonderful hotel. Notes. Dark in colour. Nose: round, wood, fruity, raisin, light caramel, wine/Madeira. Palate: light, wood, roasted, dried fruit, light nutts, chocolate, medium spicy. Finish: medium long, wood, raisin, chocolate, spicy.

So the penultimate one for today, this time from Antigua. Unfortunately too sweet in my opinion. We have the whole range here, chocolate, vanilla, caramel and even honey and marzipan. A higher ABV would probably help.

Madeira finish unfortunately gone wrong, relatively bitter, vinous, spicy and woody. Too bad. The Port cask finish is definitely much better here!

Batch 003 Not a complex but enjoyable one The Madeira finish is dominant but luckily good quality barrels/ butts used. It complements the mild base spirit.

For me a very good brand and their rums are very successful, balanced and regarding price-performance ratio I would rate them very high. Very pleasant rum, among all 3 aged I would place it 3rd, first for me is sherry aging then port and finally madeira. Aroma fruity woody sweet, with quite a pronounced sweet smell of madeira wine. Taste warm spicy with hints of citrus and caramel. Finish medium long smoky spicy.

English Harbour is awesome and over the Madeira cask a hint of wine and nice caramel that fits wonderfully together. No funk and no long finish, but a really great relaxing drink.

A medium golden hue in the glass. A very sweet smell, something of wine, spices. A very complex and pleasant aroma. The taste is quite bitter at first, then it slowly becomes sweeter in the mouth.The finish is long and relatively mild.
