Honey, vanilla and a peppery bourbon-like spice run through this 4-year Appleton blend, with just a hint of Jamaican funk poking through. One taster nailed it as "very honey tasting," another as "orange peel with slight hint of molasses." Most agree it's thin and light neat, but shines in a Mai Tai or with cola. Bought me a bottle of this rum in Nerja, Spain. It’s a blend, as the name says, of rum aged at least for four years. Overall a much to thin/weak rum in my opinion. The nose is mostly fruity with scents of citrus. At the palate it’s balanced, sweet, fruity, spicy and a little woody with flavors of honey, citrus, orange , apricot, peach, vanilla and cinnamon. The finish is rather short and a little smoky.

Bar Nationale in Thessaloniki. This Appleton Estate is basically the same rum as the Angostura. Here too we mainly have vanilla and caramel on the nose and palate. On the palate it’s also very spicy.

This is a great rum for a Mai Tai and here's my recipe. Appleton Estate Signature Curacao Orange Liquer Fresh lime juice Maple syrup Almond syrup To spice it up a bit you can add some Rhum Agricole.

Disappointingly subtle Jamaican hogo, but very smooth and buttery for its price point. Fairly light/easy drinking. Very little alcoholic harshness. An excellent rum overall, especially at the price.

Now I have to break a lance here! The rum is of course nothing to drink pure, BUT it is the absolute hammer as a food addition, e.g. - muesli - fruit salad/yoghurt - muffin Add 2cl at a time and that's it. So the points refer to the application :-)

I'm totally into this sweet Jamaica rum flavor, like the little space balls from the kiosk back then for 10 pfennigs. I also can't say no to sweet Irish whiskys. This rum is my favorite for mixing with cola. The taste comes through well and stays long enough in the mouth to definitely want to drink more. Delicious.

Tasted 30-09-2016 This original blend was a solid mixer rum and balanced on flavours . A bit like ronseal does exactly what it says on the tin , personally prefer the new blend but prefer the presentation of this bottle.

Another bonus is it is easily available in the UK supermarkets so maybe next time your doing the weekly shop, instead of the Lambs, Morgans or Sailor Jerry...
