Nice dark and complex Agricole. Besides the sugarcane, you smell and taste a lot of roasted wood, herbs and vanilla/caramel, as well as some nut and tobacco. The alcohol is super integrated.

Verdict: where the nose was balanced and beautiful to me, this rum didn't convince me on the palate and finish. A bit weak, tannic and distillate driven, where the nose revealed more wood, red fruit and baking spice. 76 points Nose: quite complex and balanced, with the distillate being recognisable. Cane juice, warm cedar wood, a hint of liquorice, and then a full blast of red fruit (like a Schwarzwälder Kirsch cake). Maybe a whiff of dried fruit, then baking spice. Palate: a bit weak, due to the lower ABV, and a bit on the bitter side. Cane juice is more prominent now, then citrus, a sense of gin, ginger, glue, and just a hint of red fruit. Finish: stays tannic, a bit on grape pip and ginger powder. Then still cane juice, grass, lemon and just a hint of the woody notes.

Round Agricole that offers a complex and balanced profile. Very appealing nose, but the mouthfeel swings between sharp herbs and caramel sweetness. A long finish leaves nice aromas like honey, dried fruits, coffee, and wood. Somehow the rum lacks that certain something.

Thinking about the price tag on this bottle you get a lot for your buck! The nose is fruity with roasted wood, sugarcane and vanilla and if you leave the empty glass you will also pick up a lovely chocolate note. The palate is also fruity with roasted wood, vanilla, chocolate and a hint of tobacco. The finish is medium long with wood, fruits, spices and a bit of tobacco.

And the winner was this Karukera. Needs some time in the glass, but then it comes. Definitely a very dark and very roasted rum. Also, you can recognize cooked wood, vanilla, sugarcane, as well as various spices and herbs.

A little Herzogenaurach tasting in Flo's cellar: I've had the Karukera in my cupboard for a very long time. Back then I tried it, found it too woody and somehow forgot about it. Today I find the wood just right and pleasant. A nice agricole on the darker side. But here too, a little more alcohol would suit it well.

Decent rum from Guadeloupe. Alcohol is very well integrated. Nut, caramel, and fruit are on the nose and then clearly in the mouth as well. Not a rum you need, but a rum you gladly drink when it’s put in front of you.

First of all, cool color. Copper-red mixed with amber. The initial nose impression is clearly caramel, woody, vanilla. The agricole notes I’m looking for only come through slightly. Everything is rather on the spicy side – but quite cheeky. Somewhere I read Black Forest cherry cake. That fits quite well. On the palate then a similar aroma. I taste the agricole a bit stronger here, though very restrained. Overall just a nice example of a somewhat longer-aged agricole with a balanced barrel influence that’s fun. Delicious to drink, not overpowering. A bottling you gladly pour into your glass.

So, tasted a second time, I have to change my opinion a bit here. On the nose and palate nice woody spicy notes. You can tell it was old wood in which the Agricole was aged, the tannins brought out a lot here. A few more volume percent would do it good. Still a good and above all balanced Agricole from Guadeloupe.
