Sip this one neat and slow — at 59.3% it's a Savanna from Reunion given a sherry finish, and that cask leans in hard. Expect cherry (griotte, almost cherry-in-alcohol), glue and gunpowder sulphur, plus roasted, smoky wood and a touch of banana. 08-08-2025 - Rate 8.3 Not a classic Savanna but I like it. I’m a sucker for sherry finish when it doesn’t dominate to much. That’s what we have here. Notes of plastic, glue, sherry, petrol and wood. Palate petrol, rubber, wood and sherry. Definitely an example of a really bad cask choice for the sherry finish. Smoky, sulfurous, petrol, plastic, and rubber unfortunately dominate the Savanna completely and ruin it entirely. Such a shame how a fundamentally good distillate can be destroyed like this...

The Oloroso finish does its job without being too dominant. Toasty and floral on the nose with a slight spiciness, toasty aromas, floral notes and banana on the palate. The finish could be longer. Overall, a solid but mediocre rum.

20.08.2021 Sitting at home with some samples. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Fresh, wood, light roasted, floral, light glue, banana, overripe, light ester. Palate Balanced, wood, faint smoke, apple, banana, herbs, overripe, banana. Finish Long and warm, fruits, herbs, light floral, overripe.

This rum is a tasty easy sipper with a dominant sherry finish. On the finish, there is a subtle but clear sulfur taste that lingers long in the mouth. Generally a bit bitter-woody and nutty. I can hardly taste any Savanna here.

I find this Savanna quite good, very dark with the first sip. Otherwise cherry on the nose, but also musty and smoky. On the palate also mostly smoky and roasted, but also some wood and again cherry.

For me a very interesting rum; on the nose I only perceive musty notes. On the palate you taste cherry with wood, smoke, and roast aromas, as well as slight sulfur, which probably comes from the previous cask influence. I find the combination of the different flavors on the palate really successful, but the nose and finish are unspectacular.

The Oloroso finish certainly enhances the rum. The finish is well integrated and is not too dominant. The base is probably rather average - definitely not a grand aroma. Overall a good rum.

On the nose roasted and floral with a slight sharpness. The taste has something of gunpowder but always enjoyable. It has something flowery. I also taste the banana. The finish could be longer but is still within limits.

Beautiful Savanna framework with lots of personality and its indulgence but unfortunately the sherry cask takes up a bit too much space for me. You have to like this kind of cask which for me somewhat distorts the classic Savanna framework, which presents a very floral side, with empyreumatic and ferrous notes (sulfur like the firecrackers I used to light when I was little and iron like the taste of blood. Sorry for these odd descriptions but it really reminds me of that). Still a lot of indulgence and spices with cherries in alcohol.
