The famous S.B.S. single cask tasting. Cask # 193. The best nose of the four, deep and balanced between fruity aromas and machine shop notes. The palate is disappointing, with clashed aromas and not-so-well-integrated alcohol. The finish is long but a little weak compared with the other 3. Best of the 4 on an empty glass.

Auch sehr leckerer Rum aus diesem Set … für mich ist das ganze Set immer noch erstaunlich günstig bzw. Weniger überteuert als andere vergleichbare (oder schlechtere) Caronis. Das Fass 193 liegt für mich gleich auf oder knapp hinter dem 190. je nach Tagesform.

The comparison is between 4 Caronis Single Cask 1997 from SBS. This Caroni stands out with a profile that's a little different from the other Single Cask. The nose is fresher, with a subtle hint of menthol to break up the dirty, empyreumatic profile. Spices and tropical fruits are present, accompanied by caramel and burnt sugar for a touch of sweetness. A complete and original nose. The profile changes on the palate. The woodiness is more present, with a tannic edge that dries out the palate, but paradoxically there's quite a bit of sweetness on the caramel and spices (vanilla). Rubber, tar and fruit are much more subdued. The alcohol could be a little better integrated. The finish is rather long and shifting. Salted caramel intrudes through spices (chili, pepper), leather, wood and smoky notes. Tobacco, tar and rubber are also present. If the profile loses complexity and depth compared to neighboring casks, this Caroni has the merit of offering a different experience with its more fanciful aromas and flavors.

Der Rum ist Teil eines Sets: Fass 53, Fass 190, Fass 193 und Fass 216. Bei diesem ist der Alkohol nicht sonderlich gut eingebunden und ein paar Tröpfchen Wasser tun ihm sehr gut, da er sonst diesen "Push in your Face" Effekt hat. Wobei ich das bei diesem gerade mag. Für das was das Set kostet bzw. mal früher gekostet hat, ist es ein absolut Topp PLV. Da können sich manch neuere Abfüllungen mal über ihren Preis nachdenken. Werde hier nochmal nachlegen!

Caroni, das Beste was es gibt unter den Rums. Nase holzig und Leder. Am Gaumen dann zusätzlich noch ein schöner Fassgeschmack. Relativ holzig, aber nicht zu sehr und echt lecker. Wieder eine top Abfüllung von S.B.S.

Mein erster Caroni und ich bin eher positiv angetan. Gummi ist zwar bei diesem Fass 193 da, aber mich erinnert dieser Rum eher an einen Agricole XO. Karamell, Leder, erdig, holzig, Früchte und Gummi. Im Mund herb, holzig und scharf, definitiv keine leichte Kost, man merkt aber, dass eine hohe Komplexität vorliegt, da es zeitgleich auch süß und floral ist. Im Abgang verstärkt rauchig (womöglich Teer) und wieder sehr komplex.

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Teil eines Sets mit vier verschiedenen Caronis, alle solide und auf gutem Niveau ohne extreme Ausreißer. Fass #193 sticht als das beste unter ihnen hervor. Insgesamt gute Qualität mit typischen Noten und ausgewogener Balance.

Das Fass 193 ist wieder reichhaltig in der Nase und etwas mehr in Richtung Erdig und Holzig. Fass 190 hat im Vergleich weitaus mehr fruchtige und florale Noten. Am Gaumen kommt eine kräftige Würze durch Holz, Leder, Tabak und Teer. Dann Fassnoten, Karamell und getrocknete Früchte gefolgt von etwas Grapefruit und Pfeffer. Der recht lange Abgang zeichnet sich durch würzige Holznoten, Tabak, Vanille und Leder aus. Fast zeitgleich kommen Erde, Teer und die rauchigen Töne aus der Nase hinzu. Lakritze und tropische Früchte begleiten die Aromenvielfalt. Nach einer längeren Zeit im Glas wird die Nase noch etwas fruchtiger und zamer. Das PL-Verhältnis ist hier wieder absolut in Ordnung.

This rum is part of a four cask selection set. Cask 53, cask 190, cask 193 and cask 216. This particular one definitely needs a few drops of water, which will release a lot of flawours and also reduce the alcohol burn.

Prei-Leistung-Verhältnis ist bei fieser SBS Box unschlagbar. Fass 193 ist ein leckerer Caroni für Einsteiger, mit allen typischen Noten. Bin jetzt auf die anderen drei gespannt.

Einer meiner ersten Caroni. Im laufe der Zeit habe ich die Bewertung immer wieder nach unten korrigiert, vermutlich auch weil ich nun andere/bessere Caroni kenne. Trotzdem noch ein guter…schön trocken, mit leicht rauchiger Note. Und natürlich dreckige Noten…wenn auch nur gering.

"I had these recently been poured blind, and i do not remember this menthol aroma throughout it all. Again, really an interesting cask after all. I like this a little less than two of the other but they are still pretty good."
