The Wild Parrot Hampden Exclusively Bottled for Sansibar DOK 2009
Made for people already deep into Hampden's DOK mark: an 11-year, 63.8% pot-still bomb of fermented pineapple, marzipan, esters and a smoky, slightly medicinal edge. Several tasters call it "wild" and love the overripe-banana fruit, though a few note vinegar and a hot, not-perfectly-integrated wood. Big, funky, and unmistakably Jamaican.

Intense, funky cask-strength DOK Hampden Loved by DOK fans for its intense fermented-fruit funk and long finish, but some find the acidity and cask-strength heat a bit much, and one taster missed the fruit entirely.

This one is really nice and touching your palate is like an explosion. Very fruity, even close to rotten fruits, nice hint of vanilla. Love the esters and lovely smoky wood finish.

Typical example of a continental Hampden that cannot keep up with the tropicals. Immediately on the nose and in the mouth the taste of pickled olives prevails and in the finish an almost musty aftertaste. No trace of fruit, hints of dried fruit. Short finish, the rum dies in the mouth instantly. At Hampden's we have had much more....

A very good hampden! The alcohol content of almost 64% is very noticeable and the rum has to breathe for a long time! But still, even here the balance of everything is very good!

Nose feels more closed up. Intense and very nice in the palate.

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is medicinal with esters, nail polish, fermented, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, some citrus, then vegetal olive, some vinegar and cheese, cookie dough, mixed with marzipan. On aeration, woody notes are stronger with smoky, roasted, spicy notes like pastry, nuts and also red fruits, herbal molasses arise. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity and medicinal, funky with esters, astringent, then fermented tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, red fruits, all together make a marmelade in a fruit cake. The wood is spicy, salty, roasted with caramel, almonds and pastry, buttery. After resting the rum, more vegetal aspect is out, with olive and flowery molasses and citrus like lime. 8,4:The finish is long, dry, bitter, still with loads of esters, fermented tropical fruits, citrus fruits like lime and grapefruit, some orange peel, smoky wood and confectionery like yeast and sourdough bread, vegetal with olive..

Nice doc that does not seem as brute as other representatives. Could I drink the whole evening and that is otherwise not a typical DOK feature.

Tasted today together with the 2002 HJF from Old Brothers. The Wild Parrot is somewhat more closed on the nose. Tropical fruit, pastry, almond and a little more ester. A little finer on the palate, less sweet. Alcohol very well integrated, warm but not sharp. Overall, I like the HJF better today and I have to lower the score for the Wild Parrot.

A rather smooth nose. The first sip is an explosion of fermented fruit, especially pineapple with a ton of funk. Lovely stuff 🥰

all… in all, the "dok", so funky!
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Quite light in color. It delivers intensity you would expect. After hgml this feels a bit too much on soury side. Also wood notes don't feel greatly integrated, they are tad harsh, same for alcohol. But to be honest this is my first aged DOK so no point of reference. Thank you Jury for the sample.

The CDI and Wild Parrot bottlings are similar. Very fruity without being too extreme. Quite a lot of acidity. More wood influence than the Letter of Marque, for example. Both are very well balanced. The WP has a more pronounced smoky note. Therefore rated slightly lower

Wow, Hampden! And DOK! Of course, there is first of all ester without end. But also a fine artificial note in the direction of iodine. When the rum stands still in the glass for a while, a very slight hint of vinegar comes across. And of course almond. Fermented pineapple and citrus complete the nose. Hui, that pulls one's mucous membranes together. Very intense and unfortunately horny. It gets warm on the palate. Ester, bitter almond, pineapple and citrus! There is not much more I can perceive. I love DOK.The finish is medium long, remains faithful to the above and is just beautiful.

Gourmet nose of kiwi, marzipan and marzipan. It then opens up to tropical fruit and heavy felt. On the palate, it's a big jamaicain, with the strong indelible marker giving way to tropical fruit (pineapple, banana), vanilla and a slightly pastry side. The 63 volts are there to give you force👊🏼 The finish is long and as funky as the rest. Everything we love about Jamaica in this jus❤️

Thats a remarkable rum for sure. Lots of funk + some additional suprises like notes of Espresso or BBQ on the finish. The only drawback would be the fact that when it comes to the sharpness and ABV punch, that rum is a wild west. IMHO not worth the money. Hampden’s 5yo 2017 DOK is cheaper and far way more enjoyable.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that produces rum as well as alcohol for perfume. In all the rums from this distillery you will taste wild esters, after which your whole organism will soak up the smell of golden tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the "must try before you die" rums

Unfassbar intensive Geschichte.
