Isla del Ron Long Pond 1982
Sip this one slowly and neat — at 30 years and 56.2%, it's built for a quiet glass, not a mixer. Wood and old barrel lead, wrapped in cream toffee, tobacco and a bit of dark chocolate, with cherry and faint tropical fruit underneath. Several tasters call it "liquid history," creamy and balanced, but a few feel it sits just past its peak and light on Jamaican punch.

How does Isla del Ron Long Pond 1982 taste?
Aggregated from 32 community reviews.
Old, woody Long Pond sipper, low on funk Loved as a piece of history — creamy, woody, long. Most call it very good but not overwhelming; a couple find it too dry, slightly bitter and short on fruit.

I was pleasantly surprised by this bottling! It has all the typical scents of this distillery, even if it has fewer flavor peaks, but it is very well balanced throughout the tasting!

History in a glass. Very good, but for me not an outstanding rum.

Liquid historie... Very balanced, hardly any esters, very creamy mouthfeel. But not over-rum for me.
Review by Leo Krüper
Very old. Unfortunately a little too old. The rum is very dry and already shows some bitter notes. The alcohol is also slightly scratchy. Too bad, I had expected great things here.

in the other glass again the 82 (33 year old) BBR Long Pond for comparison. It's amazing how big the differences are! The IdR is fruitier, more cream and vinegar, somehow more typical LP. The BBR is milder, spicier, almost like a mature Agricole with nutmeg and earthy notes. On the palate, the long ageing comes through in both, and cask and tobacco dominate. The BBR has a touch more sweetness, the IdR is a little more roasted and tart (lime?). Overall, the BBR is slightly ahead.

01.06.2019 Had a nice meet up at this Nordic Rum Fest where we brought some of our own bottles. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: fresh, fruity, wood, light roasted, cherry. Palate: oily, wood, roasted, earthy, cherry, light chocolate. Finish: long and warm, medium dry, wood, light smoke, chocolate, dried fruit.

I’m very glad to have sampled a 1982 rum. The nose is pretty good but I find that this rum lacks a little fruit in the mouth.

The oldest rum I've had in my glass so far! The nose is immediately striking with a strong smell of old musty cellar and rotten wet wood and earth. Luckily there are also tropical fruits, toffee and spices. On the palate, the wood and barrel notes dominate and almost completely cover the other tones. The aftertaste is, as expected, also barrel-influenced but only minimally bitter, rather leathery and tobacco-like. At the very end, a strange alcoholic-metallic note comes through again. That was a nice experience and historical journey with a very good rum, which, however, in my taste has passed its zenith.

This is already a piece of history in the glass!!! Very elegant on the nose with fine fruit and summer blossom notes! And of course old barrel in the foreground! The play continues on the palate right up to the finish! A great rum, but probably a bit past its prime!

For the 500th tasting an old drop. A nice intense and complex nose delivering classic long wood, vanilla and roasted toffee. On the palate it is full-bodied, creamy, with calmed fruit, a hint of earthy notes and a very long finish. Reminds me a bit of Guyana, probably due to the long maturation.

Liquid legend, but I'm missing a bit of the Jamaica feeling.

A small souvenir from the German Rum Fest 2026. Luckily not tried right at the fair, but calmly at home. A truly beautiful smooth, round and creamy LongPond from 1982. I'm impressed.

My first great love and I even think the first cask strength rum I ever tried. That sweet creaminess, woody tones paired with vanilla and plenty of marzipan. Very full-bodied, alcohol perfectly integrated and a long finish. 1982 isn’t ultra complex and fruity, but you don’t necessarily want that in such an old bottling. The taste confirms the nose and the wood rounds it off in a positive way without becoming bitter. A magnificent bottling, anyone who can should try it, preferably from a freshly opened bottle.

A great Long Pond… pure bliss ❤️

Another big surprise. It is a very old piece, yet not full of wood. Pleasant intense and complex nose delivering classic Long Pond tones, but also hints of Trinidad's technical elements. Full, creamy taste, calm fruit, hints of earthy tones and a very long finish.
