Not your typical soft Panama rum. At 61.2% this single cask goes savory and meaty — one member compares it to a seared mushroom-and-bacon pan deglazed with sherry. Around that you get raisin, marzipan, nuts, chocolate and burnt caramel, with a dry, spicy finish. The alcohol sits surprisingly well integrated for the strength. An unusual, characterful pour that rewards time in the glass.

The 2008 Panama vintage seems to be something special and the 5 years and a few % more have done the CDI good compared to the TCRL and unlocked more aromas. Extremely unusual Panama rum, rarely had something so meaty, vegetable-like. Kind of like a sharply fried mushroom bacon pan that you deglaze with a good sherry and then drink the roasting juice xD very cool!🍽️🍄🥓

At first I had some doubts because I no longer really like the profile from Panama. But I was positively surprised here. It was a good companion to a cigar. The longer it was in the glass, the better it got. Unfortunately, it still didn't quite reach very good.

01.02.2025 Retasting at the "Nordlichter Treffen 2025". Still a very good rum in my mind. --------------------- 21.12.2020 Only have notes on this one. Nose: wood, lightly roasted, raisin, nutts, marzipan, earthy, fruity. Palate: oily, wood, nutts, raisin, spicy, herbal. Finish: long and warm, dried fruit, nutts, marzipan, wood. Medium dry to dry

Wonderful Panama, I'm really impressed. I find it a really well-rounded thing. Great intense notes of dried fruits and almost a bit like peach iced tea and caramel. Really successful for a Panama rum

Nice Panama rum. Not too dry like many older Panamanians. Instead, nice chocolate, vanilla, some spiciness. Alcohol super integrated, which is not always the case with CDI and Panama.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The rum is reserved and discreet on the nose. I first find easy-drinking caramel notes. Toffee and a nutty undertone. The rum is not woody. Everything feels compressed and a bit of water could help. On the palate the rum comes pleasantly sweet with lots of caramel, vanilla, and light roasted aromas. The alcohol warms and does not feel heavy on the tongue. The finish brings more wood influence. Tannins spread and remain in the mouth. A light floral note is present. Bitterness lasts long and leaves the mouth pleasantly dry. The C.D.I. Panama 11 years is a dry rum, but it has received a clear sweetness from the barrel. Despite barrel strength, it drinks pleasantly without becoming too complex. Classic Panama without a special note that stays in memory.

Panama Compagnie des Indes Distillery: Secret Bottled for Germany Distilled: 02.2008 Bottled: 06.2019 Aged 11 Years 61.2% Cask PR3939 One of 197 Bottles Color: Gold Smell: Smells fresh, alcoholic, sweet and fruity (especially apple) with fudge and caramel. Taste: Sweet and fruity in the mouth with caramel. The taste is then light, fresh, alcoholic and not very intense, mainly like slightly burnt caramel. Spicy-sharp with aromas of toffee, tobacco, leather, chocolate, nuts and roasted notes. As with the smell, there is also some apple. Finish: Medium-long and spicy. Dry
