A puzzling rum. The nose is initially rather timid, showing signs of alcohol as well as light notes of cask, spice and caramel. Aeration brings out a buttery, funkier side, but also much more fruit, from citrus (lemon) to tropical fruits (pineapple, coconut). A round, mellow, almost creamy olfactory profile. While the profile has been interesting up to now, the palate takes a beating. The funkiness of the nose all but disappears (the glue note comes late), replaced by a sort of Foursquare bis, as alcoholic as it gets: coconut, caramel, toffee, cookie, sweet spices (vanilla, pepper), dried fruit and toasted notes are all present, creating a rather thunderous flatness on the palate. To top it all off, the alcohol is not well integrated, in fact it's one of the main flavors. A real setback after such a promising nose. The finish, quite long, offers little more appeal than the palate. A little spice, smoke and leather compete with the sweetness and the high alcohol content of the coconut. Clearly not the benchmark in the world of Fijian rums, nor for its bottler.

06.03.2020 Met up with some colleagues to give a tasting at this old iconic place. Notes. Light to medium dark colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, citrus, rubber, pineapple, mint, anise. Palate Medium intense, light wood, faint smoke, coconut, pineapple, light licorice, light mint. Finish Medium to long, medium dry, light wood, spice, light chocolate.

Mixture between Belize and Foursquare. From Fiji is missing here almost everything. But no matter the part is good😋 roasted chocolate notes, leather, coffee beans, dried fruit. Delicious

A certain elegance, especially for the nose but lacks vivacity. The alcohol is very well integrated, especially on the nose. Too sweet for my taste.

"Unfortunately not as complex on the palate than the nose would suggest. But it handles being sweet rather well."
