"Other, older releases are better" is the line that keeps coming up here. This is the drier, less sugary Centenario — chocolate, vanilla and sweet spice up front, a nutty warmth and a woody, slightly thin finish. A few tasters found it pleasant but flat, one flatly calling it "no character." Easy to sip, but it doesn't build to much.

Not enchanted by this Ron. Neither good nor bad, it leaves me indifferent. Few flavors emerge except caramel... Woody finish, rather poor. Best served with something sweet.

The next rum in the mid-price range. Tastes quite okay, slightly of chocolate and caramel in my opinion. You can enjoy it neat reasonably well, but of course, there are many, many better ones than this :)

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose, the Solera 18 shows surprisingly spicy. Some sharpness and sweet notes are present. Caramel and vanilla. Not as light as the older brothers and hardly any fruit. On the palate, it confirms that the rum is rather dry and spicy. Still sweet with vanilla notes. But also wood, pepper, and smoke. It all feels more angular and lively than the older ones. The finish comes with a slight burning and also distinct bitter notes, which is a bit of a shame. But still, the rum is quite drinkable. The Solera 18 positively surprised me and it's nice that Centenario also offers a rather dry, not so sweet rum. I prefer it over the 20 or 25. Definitely recommendable and solid. I'm happy.

The seemingly unsweetened Centenario, nose with vanilla and spice, but little, the tongue then very spicy and lacking sugar compared to the 20 and 25. If you like that, it's really recommendable from this range.
