"Anise cookie and Christmas spice" is how one taster nails it, and that unusual profile is the whole point here. This continental-aged Uitvlugt pours pale, almost transparent for 25 years in oak. Glue and orange peel on the nose, then clove, cardamom and a fine bitterness on the dry, woody palate. The 52% is well integrated. A few find it too bitter or too anise-forward — this is a specific taste you'll either chase or bounce off.

At the price tag this is a great rum, maybe I got it at a very special price bit it is very good indeed. The nose is fruity with lots of spices and there is something floral to it as well. The palate is balanced and complex with lots of fruit and spices matchibt the nose. Slight sweetness and burnt sugar later on. The finish is long and dry with wood and spice.

I had already suspected it: Since I've always harbored a certain suspicion towards bitter orange marmalade, this rum was a big challenge: perfectly integrated alcohol, round, soft profile, - but just the flavor profile alone is unbearable for me… sorry

Too bad, really expected more from this rum. Wood, spice and some gingerbread in the nose, on the palate then quite a lot of wood/oak, but also some spice, and some herbs are recognizable here.

On aeration, cream toffee, nuts, arise, green apple, raisins and banana, some metallic patina, the molasses is flowery. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is sweet, creamy with slightly roasted oak notes like nuts, biscuits, pastry, burnt sugar, dairy, spicy with anise, clove, salty, fruits like tropical, green, citrus with orange and lemon, raisins, as the molasses is grassy, herbaceous, fresh with chamomile, brings pencil shavings. 8,2:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, as slightly roasted oak notes, spicy, pair grassy, fresh molasses and various tropical, green, citrus and dried fruits..

Nice and relaxed to drink the Uitvlugt. Many spices, dried plum, orange peel and wood shape the profile. Especially distinctive are cardamom, clove and anise which make this rum a real Christmas sipper.

Hatte ich im Blindtasting. Guyana war klar, aber das er doch schon so alt war, hätte ich nicht gedacht. Auf jedenfall kein schlechter Tropfen. Der fliegt für seine 135€ glaube etwas unter dem Radar.

Going through some older samples, I found a special one from my Swiss friend Roberto. Nose: Powerful, delicious, and fruity, with anise and a lovely hint of winter spice. Mouth: Fruity, anise, cardamom, clove, and chocolate. Finish: Long and lightly herbal, with notes of anise, oak, clove, and lemon. The alcohol, as well as the barrel, are integrated and bring a powerful note without being to bitter or furry, even after 26 years of aging.

Unexpectedly, the first thing you smell is gingerbread and candied orange peel. A spicy and at the same time fresh scent. There is something equally artificial, reminiscent of nail polish remover tabs, and floral, perhaps violet. Another surprise on the palate. First there is a woody note, which is immediately overtaken by a spicy sweetness. Citrus peel and candied orange peel again. And clove. The finish still has this lovely spiciness paired with candied orange peel, very fine bitter notes... seems quite fresh for its 25 years. One explanation could lie in the continental storage... Really a surprising and great rum! I like it.

Hmmm.... I don't like Christmas stollen, but still: the rum has something, the alcohol is well integrated and something happens in the nose as well as on the palate and finish... somehow very pleasant

Rather light for an old Guyana. On the nose, anisette is first noticeable. Then wood, varnish. On the palate, it's dry and woody. Also spicy. An unpleasant metallic note at the end of the palate. Even drier finish, spicy, woody. Nice

From the aroma profile, a classic continental aged PM with honey, beeswax, light fruit aromas between banana, apple, mango, and apricot, pleasant herbal notes, and a solid anise-licorice twist. However, in this bottling, these markers are packed into a very elegant structure due to the long aging, which with its creamy mouthfeel brings me great drinking pleasure. The cask is also not completely used up yet but contributes, besides a toasted oak base, some invigorating spices and even lacquered hints. Very tasty!

Very fresh and distinct herbal aromas, some anise, clove. Almost like winter cookies. Compared to the newer 1989 Uitvlugt from RA which was aged 6 years longer, clearly simpler wood notes, but overall still complex.

Even though I am usually more a fan of tropical aged rums, I find continental PMs very exciting. This one is really successful because it combines the typical PM markers with a fine bitterness and Christmas spices into a very special but nicely balanced overall impression. That there is a 1993 PM with 25 years of aging in this quality for little more than €100 at auctions is incredible. A really underrated (is that a word?) rum.

A pleasant Uitvlugt / Port Mourant with beautiful complexity. The nose is fresh, vegetal, and woody with the typical pencil shavings from the still. Lovely spices fill the nose, especially licorice, anise, cardamom, and chili. The freshness comes from citrus (orange zest), green apple, and raisins, accompanied by light notes of glue and nail polish. An elegant nose, quite gentle but with a heavy and interesting aromatic palette. The attack on the palate is creamy, pleasant, and round. The profile is complex and plays hide and seek with the aromas. Lots of spices reveal themselves at first (cardamom, clove, anise, chili, licorice) before giving way to softer flavors of herbs, burnt sugar, and citrus (lemon). However, there is also a more woody and tannic aspect that emerges later. The aromatic palette is coherent, original, and quite indulgent for a PM. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is dry with tannins but also becomes rounder and fuller. You find fruity sequences on the citrus but also a more pronounced bitterness with herbal, woody, medicinal notes and spices (anise, chili). There is this sensation of heavy sweetness weighing on the palate but with a certain elegance. A rich PM, not so easy to decipher yet accessible on the palate, a beautiful bottling.

The 1993 vintage is not as fruity as many other PM vintages. The RA still combines discreet fruits, bitter almond and orange well. Alcohol is quite well integrated.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose the rum shows a strong herbal note. Wood and mint are very prominent. But also anise. All very lively but distinctive. On the palate the nose is reflected. Mint and anise pair with wood and some fruit. The rum is absolutely mild and some bitter substances spread out. The finish is spicy with wood and the aromas last long. One of my first Guyana bottlings with this flavor profile. You have to like that. Absolutely exciting to try and explore without it tasting particularly good to me. Here I'm glad I have a sample because I certainly wouldn't drink this rum often. But without question complex and high quality.

Interesting thing on this rum is color - even after 25y in oak barel, it’s still yellow, pale, almost transparent… Nosing- at first I found glues and polish, later I found more woody and spicy tones. The taste is complex - the alcohol is integrated very well, balanced over fruits and spices. Finish is long, dry and I can feel the woody taste after quite long time afterwards..

I like it almost better and better with every tasting. Nice spices (highlighting anise as often described). Fruit too, but I can't quite grasp what exactly. Maybe orange-plum compote with cinnamon and cloves. All with good cask aging. Nice bottling.
