11-16-2025 I pulled out the bottle again and poured it again. A wonderful fruity aroma, starting very softly on the palate, after which the Fiji kicks in. Vanilla and tea come to the fore. Light on the palate with a medium finish. Not a heavy rum, and a wonderful change from the heavier artillery. I'm glad I have this in my collection as a change of pace. =========== During a holiday in France, I mentioned at a liquor store that I fancied a rum from Fiji. Surprise me! This rum was poured. The aroma surprised me first. Wonderfully soft. Floral and light fruit notes. The taste was typically Fiji. I love it. Round, buttery, floral with a slight kick. A bit on the soft side, and the finish is also short. A welcome change from the heavier, woody rums during a rum night with friends.

No big surprise with the Fiji, the markers are there. On the nose you clearly recognize the profile of this distillery: green tea - waxy and pastry-like. Enhanced with citrus notes and glue. On the palate it’s round and earthy. Creamy and buttery. With a pronounced vanilla note. A herbal finish with a slight bitterness. This Small Batch clearly takes up the typical markers of the Fijian terroir. But it lacks madness... I find Rum Bullion’s selections successful as they perfectly capture the codes of the highlighted regions. I would just say they lack exuberance. And for Single Casks, they could try less reduction if the selection allows. Speaking of lesser-known bottlers, there’s still room for our lineup next week: Elizabeth.
