Built for strong cocktails more than the sipping glass — at 75.5% it hits hot and sharp. Underneath the alcohol there's caramel, ripe pineapple and a light Jamaican ester twang, with a little chocolate on the palate. Tasters agree the cask barely shows and complexity is thin, but for overproof drinks it does the job. Neat, it's a real challenge.

Many thanks Johannes for this blind tasting. #No.8 Phew, this is another brutal alcohol punch... Nose very, very sharp and piercing. Some honey sweetness and floral notes. Rock candy and light peach notes. On the palate again very sharp, alcoholic and edgy. Some fruitiness and even light esters can be tasted. I also conclude here that this is more of a mixer...

Johannes Blind Tasting Set No.8: The nose is quite restrained, I faintly detect some papaya, esters, and dark caramel. On the palate, initially quite a lot of sweetness, then sharp spice and some herbs. I find the alcohol not very well integrated and very strong. The finish leans more towards the herbal side.

Despite the high alcohol, it's quite drinkable. Hardly any cask influence to taste. Clearly recognizable as Jamaican. I think it's more intended as an overproof mixer than for drinking neat.

Phew, a bit wild. Plenty of alcohol, plus heavy caramel sweetness and tropical fruit. Pungent on the palate, although the heavy sweetness at least provides a counterbalance. Doesn't really get me, which once again confirms my assessment of the earlier Appletons: unfortunately without any really convincing aromatic complexity overall.

And again, an absolute alcohol bomb in this blind set from Johannes. For me, more of a mixing rum for strong cocktails to finish quickly. Neat, it's more of a challenge and not for the faint-hearted. Thanks for this selection that I probably would never have tried otherwise.

Bild tasting #8: sweetness and bourbon cask Vanilia on the nose. Not much else going on. Same on the palate: column still with bourbon cask maturation? Caramel, vanilla, alcohol. Cheers, Johannes for the set - was a blast to taste.

Johannes Bild tasting. Thanks a lot for this opportunity! 😊 Of course intended as a mixer, this rum is drinkable despite the 151 proof (75.5%). Unfortunately, it lacks complexity and depth to be really fun neat. Jamaica DNA with some sweetness is present.

Blind tasting set from Johannes (thanks for that): Quite alcoholic, sharp nose. Some esters remind of a Jamaican. Similar picture on the palate, alcoholic sharpness, behind that some fruit and caramel.

Surprisingly "mild" for 75.5%, if you can put it that way. Ripe pineapple, caramel, light esters, and spices. Definitely a good mixer for overproof cocktails. I would have expected it to be much more alcoholic.

Catawiki find. Stated as 70/80ties. Powerful stuff. Very pine woody/spicy. Because of the abv very alcoholic. So hard to figure out. But obviously well made 'cause I don't want to use this to light a fire.

Recht alkoholisch. Viel Vanille, Karamell und dezente Esternoten. Hinten raus mehr zu spüren von der Lagerung, aber sehr minimiert. Spanischer Stil? Nee, dazu ist es zu wenig Vanille und Karamell. Tendenz Jamaika low Ester oder Barbados

Hmm this seems familiar, very straightforward alcoholic low ester Jamaican. Appleton 151 anybody? I am more confident as I taste along. Pungent but not very complex. Cocktail galore and nice for what it is
