The surprise here is a rum from El Salvador holding its own: liquid dulce de leche, salted caramel, marzipan and roasted almonds, with a creamy nose several tasters can't stop talking about. At 47.5% it's got a touch more weight and length than most Cihuatáns. Tastes a little sweetened, and the alcohol isn't always tucked in perfectly, but it drinks easy and warm.

Mega! Liquid dulce de leche with salted caramel and cashew nuts. For me one of the best sweet rums on the market and the best special edition Cihuatan has made so far! 🤤👏 Really nice daily sipper!

For me the new discovery of the Rum Festival 2020. Very exciting what comes from this small country. Update 2024. For me still the best rum coming from El Salvador. With really own tones and not so easily copyable. Unfortunately, the price for this bottle has risen into the triple digits.

I have to compare with other siblings, I have samples or bottles of each in the basic and limited line. Only after that I would be able to rate it more fairly. Otherwise a nice rum but I am not sure whether the whole fuss about Cihuatan nowadays is relevant. It reminds me of a situation around Forsquare to certain degree. Pfhr

My RumRatings review from 4 years ago: The rum has a nice spicy nose with some tobacco, wood, leather, but also vanilla. On the palate, the rum is immediately sweet. For me, a bit exaggerated, the sweetness distracts. Besides the sweetness, the wood is clearly noticeable. But also vanilla and some caramel. The alcohol is only partially well integrated and burns a bit. An alcohol note is noticeable. I gave the rum to a friend who then opened it. This Cihuatan also couldn't convince me, although it is quite drinkable on a cozy evening.

Impressively creamy nose. Lots of marzipan, caramel, vanilla and also buttery tones. On the palate quite sweet and again caramel, roasted almonds, cream toffee and slight woody and nutty hints. The alcohol could be a bit better integrated, but the slight added sweetness brings a balancing creaminess. In the medium-long finish remain marzipan, caramel, nuts, pleasant spice and very faint floral notes. The Nahual legacy blend is very pleasing and pleasantly creamy. The nose stands out very positively.

Finally I can try this rum after it was on my bucket list for about 4 years. Harmonious nose of a Spanish rum with honey, caramel, roasted aromas, nuts, coffee. Fruits are rather scarce but that doesn't matter. Also a little chocolate. The drinking strength could have been a bit higher.

I tasted a sample in a blind tasting and at first I smelled wood and a bit of medicine or technique...my wife smelled diesel...the taste was mostly wood and a medium finish. After realizing it was a Cihuatan there was a sweetness of caramel, coconut, vanilla and other flavors familiar from other Cihuatans. Compared to those, there is a higher vollage and with it a longer finish.

Read full review ›First of all, I want to mention that in the photo there is another member of our animal family. And it's definitely not there by chance. It's a Green Basilisk, which is found in Central and South America (Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica,...) so also in the area where this rum is produced.
