Velier & Scheer Clarendon Plummer Continental Aging EMB 2004
Yellow fruit, varnish and floral notes on the nose — pear, white grape, green apple — but the palate is where it loses people. The fruit thins out fast and you're left with pepper, wood and alcohol that never quite settles, turning bitter at the end. This is the continentally-aged half of Velier & Scheer's split-cask pair, and most tasters here clearly prefer its tropical twin. A drop of water genuinely helps.
- Floral fruity nose
- Interesting aging comparison
- Improves with water

21.02.2020 A small private event where we borrowed the basement bar area for a private tasting and also had a go at their food. Notes. Light in colour. Nose Round, wood, fruity, pineapple, light ester. Palate Round, wood, light roasted, banana, citrus, light chocolate, light ester. Finish Medium long, wood, fruits, light roasted, chocolate, medium dry.

Phew, somehow something is missing from all of them. Overall, the bitterness is really at the limit. Tried it today after dilution and I have to say it's a clear improvement. Undiluted a 7. Now and then the dilution is worth it.

Rum on invecchiamento continentale davvero strepitoso.

also here too much ester in the rum, which covers the whole taste and flavors. but also in the coffee or tea well drinkable 😉
Review by Tom Buteneers
Overpowering alcohol that doesn’t incorporate very well, even after a long time it’s still dominating. At the beginning a rum with a high “whisky vibe” for me. Compared to the tropically aged version clearly the lesser one of the two.

In the nose, after the alcohol slowly gives way, very fruity! Unfortunately, it loses this fruitiness on the palate again! In the end, a peppery spiciness (alcohol) remains, which becomes very bitter in the finish! For me, the MMW is clearly the better one

In contrast to the tropical version, the alcohol is no fun here. The fruit is almost completely absent, but spicy barrel notes such as marzipan predominate. Overall, however, far too alcoholic to concentrate on aromas here, which is a shame, as there are moments when something chocolaty flashes up before the alcohol blows it away again.

quite disappointing for a velier name
Review by Daniel
