Pale, almost clear in the glass, and that lightness carries through: yellow fruit, pear, green apple and floral notes on the nose, plus a whiff of varnish. The palate is where most people cool off — the 64.8% alcohol sits raw and never quite blends, ending peppery and bitter. Several tasters found a splash of water helps a lot. The famous half of a continental-vs-tropical pair, and usually the one people prefer less.

Phew, somehow something is missing from all of them. Overall, the bitterness is really at the limit. Tried it today after dilution and I have to say it's a clear improvement. Undiluted a 7. Now and then the dilution is worth it.

Direktvergleich der beiden Clarendons, unschwer zu erraten wer hier der klare Sieger ist. Dieser kontinentale punktet am ehesten noch mit seiner Nase, wobei die auch sehr leicht ist. Gelbe Früchte, Lack,florale kräutrige Noten,dazu leicht muffige Mullbinde ala Guyana. Am Gaumen verdammt schlecht eingebundener Alkohol. Leichte Honigsüße, dann bitter, scharf und holzig. Das ganze zieht sich in den Abgang. Nicht mein Fall.

21.02.2020 A small private event where we borrowed the basement bar area for a private tasting and also had a go at their food. Notes. Light in colour. Nose Round, wood, fruity, pineapple, light ester. Palate Round, wood, light roasted, banana, citrus, light chocolate, light ester. Finish Medium long, wood, fruits, light roasted, chocolate, medium dry.

Tasting date 14.08.2026 2th. Together with Mr. D Jungberg & Mr. S Nørregaard RX498 EMB Plummer continental. Nose: Overripe fruits, almost rotten, green apples - banana. Alcoholic, floral and marzipan. Mouth: Unpleasant balance. Alcoholic, medicinal and chemical notes, peppery bitterness. A half an hour in the glass, more flowery and fruity notes appears. Residual taste is peppered. Vanilla and wood are nicely balanced, grassy and floral. Medical & chemical hints. Roasted and light nutty notes. 2 cl. samples or less is not recommended for proper experience for this bottling. The glass: Sour cigar tobacco, and oak barrel. Tasting: “In The cave”

8,1:On the nose, flowery and grassy molasses, sweet with honey, slightly alcoholic, varnish and rubber, tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, citrus fruits, green apple, spicy and nutty wood with marzipan, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, polish and hints of iodine arise, lime and red fruits, herbaceous molasses, confectionery with baking spices. 7,5:On the palate, the attack is imbalanced, alcoholic, bitter, sharp with polish, dry and a bit thin, the molasses is grassy, flowery, the fruits citrus and the wood spicy with anise, peppery. When the attack settles down, tropical fruits, green apple and dried fruits arise, fermented, briny olive, sweet honey, now tasty and balanced. 7,6:The finish is medium length, more balanced, dry, tannic, the wood is nutty, spicy with pepper, vanilla, slightly smoky, there are notes like burnt rubber, medicinal notes with polish, some chemical hints, the fruits are fermented, so are vegetal notes, slightly grassy.

Direct comparison of the two EMBs from Velier & Scheer. Both rums are not the strongest but demonstrate the difference between continental and tropical aging very well. The continental shows fruity with yellow fruit, sweet, floral and more delicate. The tropical aged one is rather spicy, woody with fermented fruits and tannins. No secret that my preference is always for the tropical aged variant.

EMB X-Tasting von Velier & Scheer: markanter Farbunterschied, der kontinentale ist fast schon klar. Er bringt viel gelbe Früchte mit und hat etwas florales, ist aber auch holzig, würzig und etwas unangenehm alkoholisch.

In comparison, there was the tropical aged and the continental aged. To start, neither really grabbed me. The color difference was very clear, the tropical much darker and somewhat better in taste.

EMB 14 Direktvergleich: In der Nase etwas sprittiger mit erstaunlich floralen Noten. Leichte Würze und etwas von Obstler? Im Mund erinnert er mich an Cognac, schöne Frucht (Stachelbeere) gut eingebundener Alkohol. Kräftiger Abgang Pfefferig und etwas burnt.

Overpowering alcohol that doesn’t incorporate very well, even after a long time it’s still dominating. At the beginning a rum with a high “whisky vibe” for me. Compared to the tropically aged version clearly the lesser one of the two.

In contrast to the tropical version, the alcohol is no fun here. The fruit is almost completely absent, but spicy barrel notes such as marzipan predominate. Overall, however, far too alcoholic to concentrate on aromas here, which is a shame, as there are moments when something chocolaty flashes up before the alcohol blows it away again.

Velier project where you have a unique opportunity to compare two identical barrels, same age, from the same distillery. Basically siblings, where one stayed in the Caribbean and was aged tropically, while the other was aged continentally in Europe. An extraordinary opportunity.

In the nose, after the alcohol slowly gives way, very fruity! Unfortunately, it loses this fruitiness on the palate again! In the end, a peppery spiciness (alcohol) remains, which becomes very bitter in the finish! For me, the MMW is clearly the better one

Nase: Lack und tropische Früchte, nussige Aromen und Getreide ist zu vernehmen. Gaumen: kurzer, fruchtiger Auftakt, dann Getreidenoten, bevor eine langanhaltende Pfefferdominanz einsetzt. Danach Holz. Abgang: Es bleibt der Pfeffer und Bitterkeit. Fazit: Ein Rum, der meinen Geschmack nicht trifft. Zuviel Pfeffer, der die restlichen Aromen unterdrückt.
