A lovely 1997 continentally aged Caroni. As always Tar, rubber and oils but then Im getting a pleasant sweetness coming through as well! Fruits, coffee/chocolate as well as some wood. The oak isn't overpowering at all. Very enjoyable with a longish finish.

I like it a bit better than the second 1997 bottling from the Caroni Old Music series. A bit rounder in direct comparison, the Caroni-typical dirty notes are a bit less accentuated, although still clearly recognizable. Somewhat sweeter, more balanced, more drinkable.

8,5:On the nose, oak, rubber and tar, roasted wood notes caramelized, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, tropical fruits are out, coffee and chocolate, spices, some menthol and a slight smokiness. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is industrial with tar, rubber, fruity with tropical fruits, as the molasses is minty, vegetal with fennel, chamomile and the wood roasted, sweet with caramelized notes, chocolate, slightly smoky and spicy with anise, oaky...On oxidation, some bitterness crawls out, hints of petrol. 8,3:The finish is long, less balanced, dry and tannic, as the molasses is musty, earthy with tobacco, minty, there is some black tea, pairing tropical and dried fruits, industrial tar and rubber, roasted wood notes, some metallic patina. 30.05.2020 Had a nice afternoon with friends and friends of friends including some nice bottles of rum. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Balanced, wood, light roasted, light caramel, cherry, tar. Palate Oily, balanced, natural sweetness, tar, light rubber, faint smoke, wood, roasted, dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, wood, roasted, light smoke, tar, light rubber, raisin, faint chocolate.

And the next awesome Caroni piece. I'm a bit blown away... Very tasty, lots of rubber and tar to discover here. Also menthol, dark chocolate, and gasoline. Still a super Caroni, screw the ratings.
