This rum is very well balanced and complex. At full ABV it comes in very well, but when adding a few drops of water it releases a lot of flavours not present at full ABV. Oak and fruits from nose to finish and it wanders between vegetal and herbal notes. I like it and the price tag at release is very good.

What could be better than going to Trinidad and Tobago in the mythical closed distillery that produced Caroni 😋.and yes the state closed the sugar factory in 2003 because not profitable enough. No more sugar, no more molasses ==> no more rum! Some people felt the wind turning and took over the stock, including a certain Lucas. But not only because here we will taste a bottling of Duncan Taylor ! Let's let the glass air as well as our nose because after the Long Pond, we have to go down one floor in terms of nose. It is rounder, it smells almond, vanilla. All encompassed by the typical hydrocarbons of the distillery. In the mouth, there are plum, raisins, tobacco, mango. And in the finish leather and menthol. A real length as we like them 🤩. What makes the interest of Caroni? well it's just good. On the verge of extinction so it makes the buzzzz and the interest of some speculators. Bought 2 years ago from a private person at less than 100€, good luck to find it again at this price 🤞. Seen this day in Luxembourg at 220€ 😱.

On the nose we are on the deck of a ship with the waxed wood, then the gourmandise arrives with the caramel and the coffee intermingled with the orange (well advanced). Some "spicy" tannin notes come to wake us up too. After a long aeration, the tropical fruits come to the party.in the mouth, it is complex, spicy at first. The dominant notes are roasted with coffee, leather and well toasted bread. In the background, tropical fruits and aniseed bring freshness to the whole.the finish is quite long on spices and aniseed.a pleasant caroni but I prefer them more fruity.
