"Liquid history" is what keeps coming up, and it fits — this is a 1944 Saint James, cane-juice column still, and it drinks nothing like a modern agricole. The nose runs floral and perfumed: lavender, jasmine, citrus like mandarin and lime. On the palate wood carries right through, with cinnamon, blackberry, dark chocolate and a whisper of leather. One catch several note: the finish falls a bit short.

A very atypical Saint James in the whole tasting profile! A very intense part of lavender and flowers accompanies you both in smell and taste! Despite this, there are also distinctive notes of wood, berries and dark chocolate! A must-try once in a lifetime!

Fluid story! I would probably have blindly guessed Beenleigh, especially from the nose. Rather perfumed, floral, lots of citrus fruits such as mandarin and lime, white tea and jasmine. On the palate, some blackberry, cinnamon and dark chocolate, but also floral again on the finish. Exciting what the Rommel apparently used to drink here! 😃 The finish is unfortunately a little short, hence a slight deduction. Nevertheless, a very exciting bottling!

This bottle will be emptied tonight and I already had the first glass and barely one more left in the bottle. I can't find a better occasion for finishing this rum than the slide into 2022. This is also a bottle that was released in my birth year so I know I'm old :-) At least I can add some extra information compared to my old notes. This being a very old vintage rum it is so very different in the flavor profile compared to the releases in the past decades. There is wood from nose to finish. Then there is the typical grass note mixed with spice and fruit. There is also a hint of leather in the profile. I like the spicy tunge on the palate. A very good old rum that didn't come cheap when I bought it in the late 80's

Blind tasting on 18.10.24: Very nice, slightly dark color. Very pleasant on the nose with spices, dried fruits. LAG probably aged some time in a barrel, stored in tropical conditions. Very hard to determine the country here. Could be a very nice Agricole.
