Saint James Pure Rum 88 British Proof 1944
"Liquid history" is how more than one taster sums up this 1944 Saint James, distilled from cane juice and aged 20 years. It drinks unlike modern agricole: lots of wood from nose to finish, floral lavender and jasmine, mandarin and lime up top, then blackberry, cinnamon and dark chocolate. A real leather thread runs through it. At 50.2% it's spicy but composed.

Old, floral-woody vintage agricole worth tasting A rare old vintage people are glad to have tried — woody, floral and spiced with dark fruit. The main gripe is a short finish a few feel was thinned by dilution.

This bottle will be emptied tonight and I already had the first glass and barely one more left in the bottle. I can't find a better occasion for finishing this rum than the slide into 2022. This is also a bottle that was released in my birth year so I know I'm old :-) At least I can add some extra information compared to my old notes. This being a very old vintage rum it is so very different in the flavor profile compared to the releases in the past decades. There is wood from nose to finish. Then there is the typical grass note mixed with spice and fruit. There is also a hint of leather in the profile. I like the spicy tunge on the palate. A very good old rum that didn't come cheap when I bought it in the late 80's
