Bone-dry and Fiji at cask strength — expect glue, varnish and rubber up front, then papaya, citrus and a touch of honey trying to sweeten things. The palate turns roasted and bitter, with tannins and mineral, tobacco notes running through a long, astringent finish. The 59.3% sits well integrated. One taster called it the "dreckigeren Fiji" style — the dirtier end of the island's funk.

A Fijian rum with a full-bodied, pleasant profile. The nose is very complete, with medicinal notes leading the way (glue, varnish, rubber, mineral notes), while fruit follows suit with a little more roundness (papaya, banana, citrus and dried fruit). Then come pastry notes that play on the generally heavy Fijian profile to give a welcome sweetness to the nostrils, to which spices and wood are added. It's a varied profile, quite voluble and very pleasant. The attack on the palate is a little drier, roasted and bitter than the nose suggests. However, the profile retains its greediness with tropical fruit, marzipan, pastry and honeyed candied fruit notes. The palate is full-bodied, with medicinal and mineral notes still present, a little more tannic but rather complementary to the slightly spicy profile. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is long, even drier, more bitter and tannic than the attack, not to say astringent. The minerality combines with tobacco, smoke, wood and spice. The fruit is more subdued, but its presence remains, with a honeyed edge that's as sweet as ever. A lovely bottling that strikes a fine balance between funk and Fijian sweetness.

Simply the best Fiji that TRC has bottled! Awesome nose, awesome taste! After cross tasting with the RC Fiji and the LMDW Fiji, this one is just in first place because for me it has the dirtier Fiji notes that I really like.

This is again a good 2001 representative, although slightly worse than other bottlings. Mainly because it was relatively dry. Others still have a nice honey sweetness. Otherwise again fruity ester notes with pleasantly dirty notes. Alcohol is well integrated.

Typical Fiji with this mineral profile, dry, tannins, freshness. The nose promises some fruits which the palate can’t fulfill, otherwise great dram with well integrated alcohol.

Great Fiji rum! Compared to its older brothers (17 and 18 years) it's a bit more alcoholic and also noticeably wilder with sharper aromas, which isn't necessarily bad for Fiji as it makes the typical character clearer! Unfortunately also less creamy/oily and a bit less smooth in the mouthfeel. Overall a nice fruity-medicinal Fiji profile with mineral notes. I like it!
