Velier Warren Khong 2010
The nose promises a wild, brash St. Lucia — glue, varnish, minty solvent — then the palate turns unexpectedly poised: mango, pineapple, lychee, cedar and a barrel backbone that keeps going. At 58.6% the fruit and acidity carry more than the heat, though a couple of tasters wished the alcohol sat a touch better on this young pot-still. Complex, and it rewards attention.

Wild-nosed, elegant young St. Lucia pot still Near-universal love here — several members call it their favourite St. Lucia and one of the best they've had. Only gripe: the alcohol runs slightly hot for a few.

One of the best St. Lucia rums. Complex and harmonious.

Probably my new reference for young St. Lucia! Insanely great "young" St Lucia from Velier. Alcohol perfectly integrated, great overripe fruit acidity, absolutely exceptional quality in terms of acidity, fruit, sweetness and balance. Really really cool, thanks Oli. Incidentally, quite similar to the rum tasting notes 2011 release.

In my opinion a mix between long pond teca 2003 and the white river antoine!A really particular rum where you go from fermented and acrid parts to a moldy part to a sour fruit! From the background a charred feeling not annoying! Not for everyone but I like it very much!

A nose of glue and solvents, followed by unripe fruit. Tropical yellow fruit, mango, peach, Japanese plum alcohol. Cedarwood and a certain sweetness, sea iodine. Sweetness at the start, cedar wood (cigar box), peach and other fruits in the background. The finish is long, on fruit and cedar wood, elegant to the very end. A rum that demands attention, it is indeed far more complex than it appears on first tasting. The marine iodine is surprising, right at the end.

Very young, wild St. Lucia. We are used to more wood and balance from the Chairmans. Here rather the young tropical alternative. A great example that shows that St Lucia has more than one style to offer. Due to the young age, I found the alcohol a touch too dominant in the finish, otherwise this would have been rated even higher. Great bottle design.

In general I’m not really the biggest fan of the St Lucia profile to be honest. But this one was really great. Only thing that stopped me from the 90(+) mark was that somehow the alcohol could have been incorporated slightly better?

This is a wonderful drop, well balanced and still with a huge punch. Wonderful nose and palate that linger forever. I think most connoisseurs will like this wonderful rum.

Die Nase intensive rostige Aromen. Wundervolles Geschmacksprofil mit entsprechender Komplexität. Tolle mangonoten. Leider etwas hochpreisig.

A very atypical profile. This one is hard to rate: I understand what it's famous for but it's not to my taste at all. The impression of drinking a mixture between a mojito and a green tea. I missed it, or maybe it's a sample problem.

Probably the best Lucia for me.

St. Lucia World Cup Tasting Initially restrained but not incomplex, compared to the tropical ones somehow more what you would expect as continental? Pleasant but already much drier Here is a bitter and dry note that we have not seen before in St Lucia. On the other hand, rarely pure JD2.
