8,3:On the nose, roasted wood notes with cardboard, nuts, leather, burnt sugar, sherry impact is obvious, dried fruits like raisins, apricots and figs, grassy molasses, earthy with tobacco, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, various new fruits arise, like peaches, citrus fruits, the wood is smoky, dark chocolate joins, some anise and sulphur, metallic patina, as the molasses becomes flowery, some notes of black tea might be recognized. 8,1:On the palate, the attack is intense with roasted wood notes, buttery, creamy like toffee, burnt sugar, coffee, chocolate, roasted nuts, later confectionery arises, spicy, salty, resinous a bit, as the molasses is syrupy with licorice, mineral and the fruits with sherry impact dried like apricots, raisins, joined with cherry, peaches and citrus fruits.When the rum is well rested, it becomes slightly astringent, sulphurous, perhaps menthol hints are present. 8,2:The finish is long, dry&tannic, slightly dirty, with musty, earthy molasses (tobacco), pairing roasted wood notes, spicy, smoky and citrus, dried fruits. Alcohol not optimally integrated, you can taste a lot of column style, clear sherry influence, but overall a solid rum.

In the mouth first mild and then quite quickly oily, buttery and intense. Exciting!

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: The rum is immediately sweet on the nose and brings a caramel note. A lemony fruitiness makes it fresh and aromatic. On the palate, it doesn’t take much to release the aromas. Caramel, tropical fruits, wood, and lots of spice make themselves noticed. The sharpness is a bit heavier than with the Reciot and Sweetwine finish. It stays a bit more dominant on the tongue. The finish is long and characterized by various cask notes which pleasantly and mildly let the rum fade out. Compared to the other Artesanos in cask strength mentioned above, the Oloroso falls a bit short because it lacks a certain note. Maybe the sherry finish just isn’t quite my thing. But that’s nitpicking at a high level. The rum is aromatic and doesn’t have to hide. Only in direct comparison did I like the other 6 Artesanos better. It was an awesome tasting with my good old friend and rum lover. Deluxe!!!
