A legendary bottle! A really complex rum, it transforms in the mouth where it always leaves you with something new! The thing that amazed me the most is that it has a really terrific balance, one of those bottles you would never stop drinking!

Falls slightly behind the top group of 88, 96 and 97 in blind comparison with the other Velier Uitvlugts, but moves at the top level despite a somewhat restrained nose.

In my opinion, the nose is not up to the level of the 1997. On the other hand, the palate and especially the finish are top-notch. A great, great rum, even if my preference is usually for much younger rums.

Today we did a widespread tasting with very different rums. This is a masterpiece and well worth the money. Super long finish that takes you to the skies.

... The Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

Yes, this is certainly my top 3 rated rums by far like SA 1948. This rum with 27 years tropical aging did not make it as dark as I thought would be, fresh body with tropical fruits and PM aged woody notes with toffee, chocolate and a hint of bbq, in your mouth it’s just complex and evolves with clear layer, superb stuff

Tasted this at a rum bar. And while it is indeed very good, to me it is not the best of the Velier Demeraras that I have tasted. It had lost a bit of its punch as the bottle was probably only 25% full and the owner did mention that it had dropped a few points in ABV. So take that into consideration for this rating.
