Sometimes you get your hand on something different and I got a few of those recently. The nose is alcoholic, but on the other hand it is a hefty proof served here. A fruity nose in general with some nuts and a bit of smoke/tobacco topped with hint of oak. The palate is velvety and well balanced with fruits, licorice and some wood. In the bace there is a bit of chemical and polish. The finish is long and peppery with fruits and a hint of oak. This rum is between rum and whisky so caters to both camps.

Zooming in: when pouring, it’s immediately clear which distillery this rum must come from. This is a Caroni! By the nose, this rum was probably not bottled at cask strength, as the alcohol is barely noticeable. But the intensity is all the greater: petroleum, gasoline, and burnt still-smoking rubber. On the palate at first a slight sweetness that gets drier towards the finish. Initially strong spice – dried dates and plums – which transitions into the aromas present on the nose: petroleum, gasoline, and rubber with some smoke. The finish then oak, dark chocolate, and tobacco – dry and long. A good rum from a sadly long-closed distillery. Probably bottled at 47-50% and also somewhat younger (~13-15 years) than the bottlings I mostly know. A few more percent and it could have been a little monster. 84 points

Nice Caroni, but too mild and not full body

Blind tasting: when pouring, it's immediately clear which distillery this rum must come from. This is a Caroni! Judging by the nose, this rum was probably not bottled at cask strength, as the alcohol is only very weakly perceptible. But all the more intense: petroleum, gasoline and burnt still smoking rubber. In the mouth at the beginning a slight sweetness, which gets drier until the finish. At the start a strong spiciness – dried dates and plums – which transitions into the aromas present on the nose: petroleum, gasoline and rubber with some smoke. In the finish then oak, dark chocolate and tobacco – dry and long. A good rum from a sadly long-closed distillery. Probably bottled at 47-50% and also somewhat younger (~13-15y) than the bottlings I mostly know. A few percent more and it could have been a little monster. 84 points.
