It's lighter and creamier than most Demeraras, almost column-still soft, but layered underneath. Many call it the best Uitvlugt they've had. The one recurring gripe: a finish some wished ran longer.

Just retasted this one and this time it scored higher, maybe because I had a perfect day for this kind of rum. The nose is intense and fruity with wood, spices, and varnish trailed by chocolate, tobacco and light marzipan. The palate is sweet and sharp at the same time with fruits, spices, tobacco, oak and light licorice and grass. The finish is medium to long and warm with oak, coconut and tea. A few drops of water will release a lot of extra flavours on the palate and finish.

Another beautiful uitvlugt velier! Intense and very fruity with a nice caramel note! The spices and chocolate act as a garnish and make everything very mouthwatering! Wood integrated perfectly! A very balanced rum indeed and amazing to drink!

A wonderful tropically matured Demerara. Lots of glue, caramel and coconut on the nose, fat and oily on the palate. A nose that likes to accompany a double corona, intoxicating. It's a real shame that there's nothing more to come. Anyone who has a bottle in their collection can count themselves lucky.

Tasted it yesterday; I'm still smiling blissfully now. 😍 Update 2024-10-01: Today I had the rare opportunity to taste this great rum again (many thanks to ander_s for the great surprise). While I gave the rum an exuberant 94 points at the time, I'm a little more reserved today. These are of course only nuances, but for my taste the rum could taste a little "darker", the REV-Head in me comes through ... Nevertheless, an incredible pleasure - see my opening sentence.

Amazing nose, rum + nuts taste .. Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

Blind probiert und absoöut geflasht worden! Hab schon gedacht einen absoluten Hidden Gem gefunden zu haben. Pustekuchen... Absolut genialer und zurecht schon legendärer Rum. Super intensiv, super ausbalanviert mit teopischen und roten Früchten, einer schönen Portion Holz und Karamell. Ewig langer Abgang.

Let it air a little first. For 'only' 60% ABV, it comes across quite powerfully... then the nose reveals a wonderfully complex aroma of dried fruit (dates), tropical fruit, tobacco / cedar wood, varnish, caramel, milk chocolate. There is also a hint of Ahoy sherbet lemon wafting in the background. A pleasant sweetness on the palate, accompanied by spices, coffee and nutty, roasted notes. Beautifully balanced and a mega long finish. Great Demerara cinema!

WOW outstanding nose Coconut, oak, chocolate, plum, vanilla, licorice, marzipan and slightly fruity madness complex in the nose really strong. On the palate beautiful sweetness floods the mouth mmhh lots of chocolate and coconut slightly reminiscent of a Belize... only much more complex and incredibly round. Some clove and tobacco in the finish. Delicious !!!

Edit: nice representative from Guyana. In my opinion also very good, but some small detail or off-note bothered me, which I unfortunately can't name exactly. Unfortunately, this ruins a better rating. It may also be due to the price that expectations were set so high. Unfortunately, for me it's more of a collector's item than a rum that you can drink without giving it much thought. I would have imagined the finish to be much longer than it is. Si le Rhum avait un prophète, ce serait ce rhum. Un nez merveilleux, qui plonge au cœur du terroir de Demerara et ses notes épicées, caféinées et chocolatées, les fruits tropicaux et les notes pâtissières et sucrées suivant le fil avec un soupçon de colle et de vernis, de notes de tabac et de fleurs qui en font un rhum parfait sur le plan olfactif. La bouche laisse rêveur, on est comme guidé dans un poème avec le profil sombre, épicé et chocolaté, les fruits et cette profondeur incroyable. Un rhum élégant, complexe, équilibré, d’une douceur infinie et tout simplement délicieux. La finale est interminable, sur des notes florales, épicées, des amandes, du chocolat, du thé, du caramel, des fruits tropicaux, du bois et de la réglisse. La quintessence du rhum dans toute sa splendeur.

What an incredible quality. A full-bodied, intense nose. Spicy, woody and yet fruity. Toasted, lovely sandalwood with some tobacco and leather. Then at the same time dried apricot and dried plum as well as cherry. Strong treacle, malty and vanilla powder. Palate: no less intense and full-bodied. Fine oak and piney sandalwood. Clearly almond, tending slightly towards marzipan. Dark roasted and therefore slightly bitter-salty. Beautifully spicy with nutmeg and clove. Dried, sour currant and light chocolate notes on the finish. Top of the league together with the other Velier

Nose and taste are very different in parts, a little too sticky for me personally, plus slightly floral notes of lavender and mint/eucalyptus. Blindly I would partly guess foursquare or worthy park because of the coconut! Thanks Rob! 😋

Pleasure at the very highest level. The smell alone (solvent, lots of spices) of the rum is indescribable. The rum unfolds its full aroma in the mouth. An absolute highlight that will be remembered for a long time.

Un nez puissant et très ouvert, comme un parfum avec de la vanille et de la noix de coco. On pourrait penser un instant à Foursquare, mais un Foursquare sur stéroïdes, plus profond. Avec une douceur profonde, un caramel amer marqué. La première bouche apporte un bois très noble, de la douceur avec un caramel amer, des fruits secs et des fruits tropicaux. La finale est longue, sur un beau caramel amer et le bois et, tout à la fin, les fruits. Le verre vide exhalé encore plus de flaveurs, herbacées et même florales. Un rhum addictif !!

Impressive Uitvlugt from 1997, a little funky on the nose which surprised me a little for a Guyana rum. However, the taste is very balanced and complex. The finish could be a little longer. Can't quite keep up with my top Caroni representatives but still very tasty.

On aeration, tons of confectionery notes arise with cookie dough, pastry, biscuits, diary, marzipan, chocolate, as the wood becomes slightly resinous.Dried fruits and mango pop out, if patience is our modus operandi. 9,2:On the palate, the attack is sweet, round, balanced, full-bodied and concentrated with toasted oak notes like biscuits, roasted nuts, later caramelized Demerara sugar, spicy with baking spices, nutmeg, vanilla, umami, perhaps allspice, fruity with coconut, citrus and dried fruits, mango, as the molasses is dark, thick with licorice, herbaceous, earthy with tobacco. 9,1:The finish is long, dry, slightly tannic, warm, with sweet toasted oak notes like milk chocolate, nuts, butterscotch, toffee, marzipan, biscuits, caramelized, spicy, some dairy, fruity with dried, citrus fruits and coconut, as the molasses is vegetal, fresh with tea, flowery and dark with licorice.

Absolutely unique Cocos-Pattex glue note and also very complex. Rarely have I taken so much time to savor it, it's actually hard to stop. What else is there to say? This rum is absolute fun and is one of my absolute favorites. If I had to take 3 rums with me to a desert island, this one would definitely be there 🤙

The nose is bewitching with glue, white/yellow fruit and sweetness. The palate is superbly balanced, gourmand and fresh, concentrated and well-balanced. The finish is long, fruity and gourmand. One of the best rums I've ever drunk.

Die Nase ist intensiv und fruchtig mit Holz, Gewürzen und Lack, gefolgt von Schokolade, Tabak und leichtem Marzipan. Am Gaumen ist er süß und scharf zugleich, mit Früchten, Gewürzen, Tabak, Eiche, leichter Lakritze und Gras. Der Abgang ist mittel bis lang und warm mit Eiche, Kokosnuss und Tee. Ein schöner intensiver Rum, Alkohol perfekt eingebunden.

Dieser Uitvlugt Velier ist mal wieder ein absolutes Meisterwerk ! Die Nase ist sehr intensiv und vielschichtig mit Kokosnuss, Karamell, Vanille, Holz, Trockenfrüchten, Marzipan, Klebstoff und Schokolade. Keksteig, Zitrusfrüchte und Zedernholz gesellen sich in sehr harmonischer und ausgewogener Komplexität dazu. Der Gaumen ist der helle Wahnsinn ! Eine warme Würzigkeit führt an und bringt Kokosnuss, eine schöne Süße, Holz, Gewürze, Vanille, Tabak, Eiche, Muskatnuss und Lakritze. Die dunkleren Aromen/Eindrücke sind etwas verhalten, machen den Genuss aber keineswegs kleiner oder weniger spannend. Gewürznelke, Mokka, Keksteig und Nüsse ergänzen die großartige Komplexität und ich könnte ewig auf einem Schluck „herumkauen“. Der lange, ausgewogene Abgang bietet Kokosnuss, Holz, Marzipan, Karamell, Milchschokolade, Eiche, Lakritze und Nüsse. Orange, tropische Früchte und Tee erweitern die Aromatik in schöner Harmonie. Very successful Uitvlugt with pronounced depth and classic Demerara character. Complex dark fruits, tea, leather and a fine spiciness on the nose. Powerful yet balanced on the palate with molasses, wood and a pleasant tartness full of character. The alcohol is well integrated and carries the profile cleanly. Overall, an impressively complex rum that perfectly combines intensity, elegance and a clear line.

Rich, complex and layered rum. I struggle to tie the high accolades from other bit put it down to the combination of drinkablity and complexity. It’s wasn’t as good as the SVW 1999 in my tasting but close. A tad flat on the finish but overall gives a lot of flavours. A complex nutty finish with some light glue and a moorish finish. Un premier nez tres agréable porté sur la coco et quelques solvant en approfondissant le deuxieme nez, des notes de mangue et un légé toasté et une petite pointe mentholé subtile viennent agrementé la complexité. Le tout est très rond et l’alcool peu prenant. En bouche une douceur avec un boisé subtile laissant transparaître la coco, la reglisse cette pointe d’epice mentholé. Une petite chaleur sur la langue du aux 59,7 degré mais qui ne reste pas. Une finale agréable et longue en bouche apportant une fraicheur. C’est du tres bon!

The first thing I get on the nose is old book store, that sweetish, musty odour. As a book worm myself, I am immediately sold by this rum! With a little aeration the smell unfolds notes of coconut, vanilla, caramel. And it seems to be more fruity than Diamond RX368. The taste is quite similar to Diamond but woodier and spicier. I am quite confident to say that this is the best Uit I have tasted and will ever taste. This is very complex and layered rum scoring easily well over 9 for me. The estery coconut rocketship that is this uitvlugt. It is crazy how well the coconut integrates to the Demerara flavours, the spices and wood are evolving around this until they fade away into a long finish of caramel and wood.
