Just retasted this one and this time it scored higher, maybe because I had a perfect day for this kind of rum. The nose is intense and fruity with wood, spices, and varnish trailed by chocolate, tobacco and light marzipan. The palate is sweet and sharp at the same time with fruits, spices, tobacco, oak and light licorice and grass. The finish is medium to long and warm with oak, coconut and tea. A few drops of water will release a lot of extra flavours on the palate and finish.

Another beautiful uitvlugt velier! Intense and very fruity with a nice caramel note! The spices and chocolate act as a garnish and make everything very mouthwatering! Wood integrated perfectly! A very balanced rum indeed and amazing to drink!

A wonderful tropically matured Demerara. Lots of glue, caramel and coconut on the nose, fat and oily on the palate. A nose that likes to accompany a double corona, intoxicating. It's a real shame that there's nothing more to come. Anyone who has a bottle in their collection can count themselves lucky.

Tasted it yesterday; I'm still smiling blissfully now. 😍 Update 2024-10-01: Today I had the rare opportunity to taste this great rum again (many thanks to ander_s for the great surprise). While I gave the rum an exuberant 94 points at the time, I'm a little more reserved today. These are of course only nuances, but for my taste the rum could taste a little "darker", the REV-Head in me comes through ... Nevertheless, an incredible pleasure - see my opening sentence.

Amazing nose, rum + nuts taste .. Old Velier Demerara rum is the best thing you can taste in the rum world. The rums were aged in the tropics for several years by mistake and nobody refilled the barrel. The Andel tax was 90% or more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it is an extra expensive product, I recommend to taste a rum from this series at least once in your life.

Let it air a little first. For 'only' 60% ABV, it comes across quite powerfully... then the nose reveals a wonderfully complex aroma of dried fruit (dates), tropical fruit, tobacco / cedar wood, varnish, caramel, milk chocolate. There is also a hint of Ahoy sherbet lemon wafting in the background. A pleasant sweetness on the palate, accompanied by spices, coffee and nutty, roasted notes. Beautifully balanced and a mega long finish. Great Demerara cinema!

WOW outstanding nose Coconut, oak, chocolate, plum, vanilla, licorice, marzipan and slightly fruity madness complex in the nose really strong. On the palate beautiful sweetness floods the mouth mmhh lots of chocolate and coconut slightly reminiscent of a Belize... only much more complex and incredibly round. Some clove and tobacco in the finish. Delicious !!!

Edit: nice representative from Guyana. In my opinion also very good, but some small detail or off-note bothered me, which I unfortunately can't name exactly. Unfortunately, this ruins a better rating. It may also be due to the price that expectations were set so high. Unfortunately, for me it's more of a collector's item than a rum that you can drink without giving it much thought. I would have imagined the finish to be much longer than it is. Si le Rhum avait un prophète, ce serait ce rhum. Un nez merveilleux, qui plonge au cœur du terroir de Demerara et ses notes épicées, caféinées et chocolatées, les fruits tropicaux et les notes pâtissières et sucrées suivant le fil avec un soupçon de colle et de vernis, de notes de tabac et de fleurs qui en font un rhum parfait sur le plan olfactif. La bouche laisse rêveur, on est comme guidé dans un poème avec le profil sombre, épicé et chocolaté, les fruits et cette profondeur incroyable. Un rhum élégant, complexe, équilibré, d’une douceur infinie et tout simplement délicieux. La finale est interminable, sur des notes florales, épicées, des amandes, du chocolat, du thé, du caramel, des fruits tropicaux, du bois et de la réglisse. La quintessence du rhum dans toute sa splendeur.

What an incredible quality. A full-bodied, intense nose. Spicy, woody and yet fruity. Toasted, lovely sandalwood with some tobacco and leather. Then at the same time dried apricot and dried plum as well as cherry. Strong treacle, malty and vanilla powder. Palate: no less intense and full-bodied. Fine oak and piney sandalwood. Clearly almond, tending slightly towards marzipan. Dark roasted and therefore slightly bitter-salty. Beautifully spicy with nutmeg and clove. Dried, sour currant and light chocolate notes on the finish. Top of the league together with the other Velier
