Most people land on "special and delicious, but a touch too sweet." Glue, solvent and rubber lead the nose, with ripe banana, pineapple and a wisp of smoke behind them — very Jamaican for a Réunion rum. The rye-whisky finish adds char and leather. Then the dosage kicks in: intense and estery up front, sliding into a syrupy sweetness that, for a few tasters, "wegbügelt" everything else.

Just yesterday I had a Plantation Savanna 2005, 12 years with a 1 year finish (rye) and 51.9%. I was blown away by it. I came across this sample by chance and naturally had to try it. The nose suggests a great rum with intense aromas on the palate. In the mouth, the rum starts off richly flavored and intense, but then quickly falls into a very sweet direction that irons everything else away. The finish is again initially Grand Arome-like and then becomes very sweet. It would be very interesting to try all the Plantation Savannas from this range against each other. For me, the one with the rye finish is much better.

Quite a nice savanna. Heavy, sweet and overripe with wood, smokiness and lots of glue. But I'm a little more convinced on the nose than on the palate, where it seems a little inconsistent towards the finish.

This could have been a really tasty Grand Arome, I wasn't averse to the Rye Whisky finish either but here there is definitely a lot of dosage. The syrupy sweetness unfortunately completely ruins the flavor profile, no idea what that's about...

It really has a special taste profile and I like it. I actually bump it a few points this time. Now into my second bottle and it’s still different from most rums I’ve tasted and I still like it.

This is an older tasting. A fruity rum with nice wood and a lovely smoky note. The glue in the profile is there from nose to finish. Price to quality is very good.

An intense smell of glue, solvent, fruity, also some smoke and whisky. The taste is also intense and special, fruity, smoky, glue and also a bit dirty in the aftertaste. The body is heavy and oily, the taste lasts very long. An extremely interesting rum...

Surprising rum. Very soft and fruity nose despite esters and a strong whisky presence. On the palate, after the burn of the alcohol, it's very Jamaican: esters, ripe fruits. A fermented side. Quite a long finish with a very pleasant sweetness, almost caramelized.

Funny thing: I could not smell a hint of charring before tasting. After tasting it is dominating the nosing. Really delicious; sweet and estery and a hint of burn. Had I been a smoke head this would get a higher rating with me.

Plantation / Planteray Advent Calendar 2024 by Zdenka Polácha Day 19 The combination of Savanna with whisky works very well in this case. I just find the final product unnecessarily sweet. But that was apparently the trend of the time. I like it.

Nose: Whisky, smoke and glue aromas. Palate: Glue and rubber, followed by smoky and charred notes from the whisky finish. Finish: smoky and a very subtle sweetness of honey detectable. Conclusion: Representative of the 'dirty' camp. Reminds of Trinidad. But despite the long aging period, it has a relatively short presence.

Color: Amber Smell: Intense and aromatic, sweet, fruity and ester-like. Aromas of banana, coconut, cream, herbs and a bit of smoke. Smells really delicious. Taste: Sweet and fruity in the mouth before it becomes spicy. When swallowing, spicy toffee, sweet with sandalwood. Delicious. Finish: Long, tasty, warming, sweet in the aftertaste. Spicy, sandalwood, cinnamon leaves and leather. Conclusion: Reminds me strongly of the arranged rum I just made from white rum with a dry mix from La Réunion... especially the cinnamon leaves contained in it. 87 points
