Velier Port Mourant PM 1972
Sipped neat, this old Port Mourant leans surprisingly sweet and fruity — think piña colada, overripe tropical fruit and brown sugar on the nose, with toffee, dried fruit, coffee and a light smoky note underneath. Several tasters call out a distinct gummy-bear sweetness. A long finish and a huge 36 years in cask, though a few find the palate thinner and less layered than the nose promises.

How does Velier Port Mourant PM 1972 taste?
Aggregated from 18 community reviews.
Sweet, fruity old Demerara with a long finish Loved for its fruity, piña-colada nose and long finish, but opinions split: some find the sweet palate a touch one-dimensional and thin next to the legendary 1974/75 Port Mourants.

I got his one in the morning and just couldn't wait, so I poured one and left it for a bit over 30 minutes. The flavour was there from opening the bottle but after resting the flavours just seemed to pour out of the glass. A wonderful rum even though it made a huge hole in my wallet. If you ever get the chance of a sampler, give it a go because it's really something you should try.

Great gummy bear note!
Review by Oliver
Extremely unusual rum! Fruity, tart, pina colada - crazy...
Review by Jakob
Absolutely exceptional - very sweet-fruity. On the nose, pina colada with subtle wood notes. On the palate, the very present sweetness remains present and becomes a little too dominant for me overall, from which mE also suffers the complexity. Exciting bottling, but is not for me in the Demerara Olympus.

Neat, balanced rum. But somewhat one-dimensional and thin. No comparison to the 1974 and 1975 vintages....strongly overrated.
