This was a really nice surprise actually. Though it's a very good rum i would have liked to try out a version with higher ABV. Very lightly fruity with roasted/smoky wood and spices. Very fresh on the palate and I like the mint that kind of pops up after a while in the finish.

I am still very impressed by this Uitvlught. After more than two years in the bottle, this rum has lost none of its flavor. On the contrary, it has become somewhat more balanced. The alcohol is very well integrated. It is smooth, oily, round, with a pleasant sweetness. Truly a great rum. Highly recommended. I definitely stand by my rating of 92 points.

Ah, that's good. A lovely complexity with orchard fruit, pastry and slightly empyreumatic aromas. Time has done its work in what I imagine to be continental conditions. With perfectly integrated alcohol, the freshness makes it extremely easy to drink.

The Rum Mercenary – Black Label Uitvlugt 1997-2019 (49.1%) A 21-year-old Uitvlugt, always selected by The Rum Mercenary. And as often with Guyana rums, the name can be misleading: distilled at Uitvlugt, yes, but using the famous double wooden still – the mythical Port Mourant. This is a joint bottling with Kintra, in the "Black Label Collection" series. Nose Very expressive, with herbal, fruity, slightly buttery notes. A nice aromatic complexity. Palate Lively, creamy and gourmand. It leans more towards a pastry and fruity register, with little or no traces of the damp wood found in other PMs. Finish Quite long, on pepper, vanilla, a chocolate bitterness and a dry touch at the end of the mouth. Conclusion A superb Guyana, perfectly balanced, that breaks away from the classic Port Mourant paths. A nice surprise! And what about the release price: €119 for a bottle of this caliber… I immediately go back in time to buy a case! A huge thanks to Gwenn for the samples that made this comparison possible. One of the most exciting tastings!
