T.D.L Zaya Rum Gran Reserva
Vanilla, caramel and chocolate pour out thick and sweet — this drinks like dessert in a glass, not a dry sipper. At 40% there's no burn, which is exactly why beginners keep reaching for it. Several members flag it as dosed and one-note, and a few find the body goes thin mid-palate. Coffee and roasted nuts show up if you give it time.

Most helpful positive review
A smooth, sweet rum with pronounced chocolate and vanilla notes. Perfect for connoisseurs looking for an accessible and full-bodied rum with a dessert character.

Extremely sweet nose and palate. Not very good
Review by Timo Groeger
This rum really knows how to convince. Beautiful and above all pleasant nose consisting of coffee and chocolate. Then really fun on the palate. Goes from dark chocolate and coffee to vanilla and nuts. And above all, not too sweet. Delicious.
Review by Tyler L
Nosing is very vanilla forward with orchard fruit, particularly pears. There is also some caramel sweetness. After some time the nose gets much more woody. Initial vanilla bomb with caramel and some chocolate. It gets very thin right after the first wave of flavour and then begins to develop some more interesting flavours of spice and roasted nuts. The thinness is a little off-putting especially considering the richness of everything else. Too bad. After sitting for a while, I will admit that the flavours seem to integrate a little better and the thin impression is lessened. The finish is decent, kind of short with a rather pleasing sweet chocolate and some light barrel notes. Where I live (Vancouver) the price is on the high side so the value isn’t there. Finally, the entry here for this rum claims to be pot still. I can’t see that as being the case.

Very sweet, vanilla and fruity on the nose. I really enjoy the nose on this one. Taste is sweet, slightly woody but not overbearing and the vanilla persists. Really good rum as a beginner sipper for the price.

This is the rum that opened my eyes. I know it's dosed, and I don't care. Some Demerara syrup and angostura with this rum sends me to heaven. Sweet but not sugary, this is the perfect intro rum for a newbie. That said, I still think it's my favorite and I don't think I'll ever have my bar without a bottle.

Really intriguing compare to some my other rums. The chocolate and coffee tons are more pronounce than vanilla. The flavor profile hangs for a long time. A slow sipping rum.

Smooth, creamy, vanilla, spice, not as tingly & spicy as some of the others I like a lot. But, still pretty good

Much vanilla flavour!

Good sipping rum. Same profile as Barcelo Dark. Sweet, no burn and easy to drink.
Review by Solidfunk
Light vanilla on the nose and medium oak in the mouth. Not super interesting but also not unpleasant. If I'd have know this came from the Zacapa line I probably wouldn't have shelled out $35 for it, but choices tonight were limited. Dark copper pour. Short to medium finish. Bottle.
