Velier Albion AN 1989
"A true unicorn," one taster called it, and the reviews back that up. This 19-year Albion Demerara from Velier is toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and smoke, with a faint fermented-fruit and mint edge a few people tie to Savanna Grand Arôme. Full-bodied, oily, long finish, and at 62.7% the alcohol is folded in cleanly. Complex and potent — not an everyday pour.
The community says- Complex, layered nose
- Long finish
- Great ABV integration

How does Velier Albion AN 1989 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Complex, oily aged Demerara for collectors Genuinely loved by the few who've had it — complex, oily, chocolatey Demerara with a long finish and well-integrated strength. The only catch is scarcity: 108 bottles.

Albion meets Grande Arôme - the classic profile of vanilla, oak and toffee is complemented by a subtle note of fermented fruit and mint, which I associate directly with Savanna Grand Arômes. Unique combination at the highest level.

03.12.2025 Retasting. Enjoying the last sample from the bottle I bought 4 years ago. I still love this potent and complex rum and would have loved more bottles ------- I threw 1500 euro after this bottle last week and I don't regret it a single moment. Very well balanced and complex with great ABV integration. Wow, what a rum!

A bit rougher, but more complex than the Albion 2004.

Incredible experience. Nose 95 points, taste points. Very exciting combination of caramelized fruits, spices, dark chocolate and smoke. In direct comparison to the Albion from El dorado, which is of course a little younger, I didn't think it was worth 30 times as much...

Quite atypical but definitely an amazing rum ! Huge crush for the nose which is complex as hell 😍

... Stare Velier Demerara rums are the best you can taste in the rum world. Rums matured rather by accident for several years in the tropics and no one topped up the cask contents. The angel's share was 90% and more, which is why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it's an extra expensive affair, I recommend trying rum from this series at least once in your life.

At Rum aan Zee in IJmuiden, I was given a unique opportunity to taste this special rum. Incredible, I enjoyed this so much. A full, complex rum on the nose and palate with an extremely long, full, delicious finish. Toffee, oak, nuts, fruit, and dark chocolate come to the fore in a wonderfully controlled manner.

Again a true unicorn. What the nose promises, the taste doubles. Slightly sweet with some bitterness followed by fruits. Some flavors follow that I can't yet assign but all positive. The finish again soooo long.
