Velier Albion AN 1989

9.4/10
Rated by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰, Oliver & 17 more

"Complex as hell" is how one taster sums up the nose, and the people who've opened this don't argue. It's a 19-year tropically-aged Albion: toffee, vanilla, dark chocolate and a smoky, dried-fruit depth, full and oily on the palate. At 62.7% the heat is woven in rather than sharp. A rare, expensive bottle people chase once in a lifetime.

  • Complex nose
  • Toffee and chocolate
  • Great ABV integration

How does Velier Albion AN 1989 taste?

Aggregated from 19 community reviews.

Deep, oily Demerara at full strength Adored by the Demerara faithful — deep, chocolatey and remarkably balanced for the strength. The catch isn't the rum; it's finding (and affording) a bottle at all.

Perfect for

Demerara lovers chasing old tropical-aged Velier bottlings

Less suitable for

Anyone new to high-ABV rum or after an easy sipper

I threw 1500 euro after this bottle last week and I don't regret it a single moment. Wow, what a rum!

A bit rougher, but more complex than the Albion 2004.

Albion meets Grande Arôme - the classic profile of vanilla, oak and toffee is complemented by a subtle note of fermented fruit and mint, which I associate directly with Savanna Grand Arômes. Unique combination at the highest level.

Incredible experience. Nose 95 points, taste points. Very exciting combination of caramelized fruits, spices, dark chocolate and smoke. In direct comparison to the Albion from El dorado, which is of course a little younger, I didn't think it was worth 30 times as much...
