In direct comparison to the Nobilis Rockleye... both rum of the absolute top class... with slight advantages for the Rendsburger...as it is a bit more present and the smoke/honey flavors come out a bit better... both very complex and harmonious... I would like to have a bit more of that 😇

In the Rockley direct comparison against the Silver Seal In the SS honey, smoke, fruit, rubber ... everything is a little quicker on the nose and also a little less incisive. On the other hand, the Rendsburger has a fine sour fruit note of raspberry and lime or red and tropical fruits. Similar on the palate ... the Rendsburger brings fresher fruit notes of raspberry and lime into play. Both good and ultimately a matter of taste. I prefer the Silver Seal, as the honey-smoke-dirt profile comes out better

Rockley Tasting 1986/87/2000 One of the top representatives of the Rockley 86 series. However, it ranks behind RA, SS and Duncan. Very dense profile, harmoniously combines fruit, wax and herbs. The alcohol is strong but supports the structure well. Appears clear and precise with a long, dry aftertaste.

One finds the typical markers of the Rockley profile almost without exception, honey, fruit, smoke, vanilla, wood are all present - but I miss a little the present freshness of the fermented fruit and honey, which characterizes the absolute top class of the West Indies releases from 1986. Nevertheless, it remains a great release at an impressive level of quality.

This rum is from one of the remaining old rum houses in Flensburg, Northern Germany. They have been in the business for a long time and continuesly makes a good bootle. This is a sharp rum that will need a drop of water or two in my mind. Powerful nose and a punch on the palate. This base rum originates from Rockley and was part of a major export from 1986. Primarily matured on continental soil, which is very obvious when tasting.

It’s always an experience to try a Rockley 1986. A dream of a rum... Nose very pleasant, floral with honeydew melon, vanilla, mango, cherry, peach. I don’t find the alcohol disturbing or sharp here. On the palate it unfolds its full power... very full-bodied, again plenty of honeydew melon, mango, cherry, some raspberry jam and also light floral notes. Here you feel the alcohol more clearly... however, you should let such a drop breathe for about 1.5 hours to fully enjoy it... that makes it accessible and the alcohol a bit easier to tolerate. Great 1986 💥

Cadenhead‘s 18y @46%: while the low ABV becomes very apparent side-by-side with the FP bottlings, this bottling can comfortably stand on its own. This delivers the Rockley profile with a lot of complexity and intensity as well. On the nose this is much more approachable, yet intense. On the palate it does lose a bit based on the dilution but the Cadenhead‘s is a good way to experience this style of rum in an easy going way overall. Rendsburger 18y FP: Very intense and more lively compared to its older brothers. While the high ABV provides an excellent oily texture and complexity on the palate, it is a bit sharp on the nose. Here the profile is still very nice, but a bit too alcohol forwards for an even higher score. Silver Seal 33y FP: on the nose this one leaves a rather closed up impression (comparatively). While I get all Rockley markers, the SS somewhat lacks intensity. Much more intensity on the palate! Compared to the 18y (obviously) much more mature with additional wood and depth. Excellent! Rum Artesanal & Nobilis 34y FP: now this is top notch territory! Rich, intense and complex both on the nose and palate. On the nose the Nobilis has a hint more fruits, while the RA has some additional candied herbs. On the palate the RA comes with a bit more wood as well as sweetness, while the Nobilis again feels more fruity and a bit „lighter“. Today the RA takes the crown for me, but this might as well be the other way round in the next session.

What the fuck is that... I actually thought I was drinking rum :-) . Crazy what is possible, very multi-layered and complex. But you have to let it sit for a long time before it really unfolds.

Nice Rockley. Due to the young age, it lacks some body, but the finish is very long and wonderfully balanced. In direct comparison with the Nobilis, it still only reaches 2nd place.
