Velier Bielle Rhum Rhum Libération 2020
Well-liked but with an asterisk: it's a lovely, gentle Marie-Galante agricole that several owners feel got reduced a touch too far. Dried apricot, ripe banana and almond lead the nose, with grass, sweet cane and light pepper on the palate. The 45% keeps it soft and easy — the flip side is a thin body and a finish that fades quick. Fans of the earlier full-proof editions notice what's missing.

Soft apricot-and-grass agricole, a touch thin Most find it a pleasant, easy agricole — but the recurring gripe is dilution: several call it thin and light, and say the earlier releases had more depth.

It needs a good oxygenation time to show its potential! In this reduced-degree version the citrus and fruit scents stand out much more, with a very pleasant sugarcane garnish! Wood integrated quite well and some mouthwatering notes accompanying the whole tasting!

Big disappointment, Weak aromatic profile. Nose a bit spicy and woody, you find a note of candied fruit and dried fruit but it's poor. On the palate nothing. A bit of wood, a bit of vanilla, 3 seconds and then nothing. A warm sensation remains and a drying side. It seems like it was quickly diluted with demineralized water, without any care. A shame.

Relaxed Rhum Rhum. Does not quite come up to its excellent predecessors.
Review by Joachim Guger
Dried apricots, bananas, almonds. Slightly watery in the mouth, but very drinkable. Great Agricole, clearly reminds me of the 2012.

Nose mild, fruity and sweet. Besides an elusive note - possibly "earthy"?on the palate it reminds me fleetingly of Highland whiskey. The earthy note is also present here, a bit like wet musty wood. The medium-long finish brings no surprise and remains predominantly on the woody side. Does not belong to the varieties of rum that I prefer.

Solid Agricole

Having tried the release that hasn't been watered down I habe to admit that a bit has been lost when reducing the ABV. It will however attract more people by releasing two different levels of ABV. The nose is fruity with spices, wood and a hint of nuts. The palate is lightly dry, yet thin with fruit, wood and spices trailed by some nuts. The finish is medium long and warm with fruit, wood and spices.

On the nose very fruity with banana and dried apricot. On the palate, allspice and tobacco. White to convince, despite the low ABV.

A good rum, probably at full strength it has more character and more body on the palate. The nose is delicate but with character. On the palate in some parts of the sip this rum lacks a bit of “body”, seems a bit light. Still a pleasant drink.

Blind tasting. Sugarcane spirit, from fresh juice, not molasses. Sweet-grassy. Vanilla. Fresh fruits. Toffee oak. Sweet toasted oak. Was surprised that’s it’s Liberation 2020. Expected more French wine influence. But rum are good. Blind score was 82-83/100
Review by TheRhumhoe
The nose is carried away by spices, herbal and vegetal notes, a hint of earthiness and dried fruit (apricots), with a profile typical of the region. This sweetness on the nose is echoed on the palate, with pronounced herbal and vegetal notes, hay, chamomile and freshness, followed by sugarcane, sweet spices, dried fruit and almond. The medium-length finish follows the same earthy, spicy, dry and slightly woody pattern. A linear profile that unfortunately lacks the character to really stand out.

I haven't tasted the full proof ones from 2012/2015, or even the 2020, so it's hard to have a point of comparison, but it's honestly not too bad. A nose of banana, papayas with a clearly spicy side and a bit of wooden barrel. On the palate, it's different, immediately an allspice note mixed with fruit and spices... You can clearly tell it's diluted... Shame! The finish is average on the spices. Overall it's still good and promising to try the others.

Relaxed Bielle, a bit too watered down but still a nice finish.

Due to the excellent Liberation range, expectations were high. Disappointment after even worse. rhum without depth, completely flat and indistinct, is sweetness and emptiness. Really bad joke.
Review by Volkmar Weber
The magic and sweetness of the predecessors is completely missing here. The clearly weakest edition of all RhumRhum Liberation.
Review by Thunderbird
A pleasant Agricole, but without much depth and little complexity. The dilution might have been too much! I miss something there.

Day 21 Sample de Luxe calendar: Not really my thing, lots of dried apricot with grass.

A bitterness that I didn't like. Just like that grassy side.
