T.D.L S.B.S Trinidad 2008
Sniff first and you might recoil — the nose runs sharp and "hard künstlich," tar, camphor, even a sulphur whiff some people catch. But the sip is the better half: caramel, citrus, cinnamon and warm cocoa that deepens into dark chocolate as it opens. The Madeira cask leaves a long raisin-and-spice finish. One Dane called it a "well hidden gem."
- Warm cocoa palate
- Long Madeira finish
- Nutty depth

How does T.D.L S.B.S Trinidad 2008 taste?
Aggregated from 26 community reviews.
Nutty, cocoa-rich Madeira-cask Trinidad Most agree the palate beats the nose: nutty, chocolatey TDL with a big Madeira influence. A few find the wine note too dominant and a metallic, musty edge that nags. Give it air.

On the nose riechts hard Artificially after Toffifee, taste in itself solid quaffable nutty chocolaty tdl but somehow a strange metallic and rotten-woody beinote that bothers me. Madeira wine influence is also too dominant for me...

This weekend was very busy because I've been building a new shelf system for my 250+ bottles so my Saturday and Sunday tastings haven't been added :-) This is not the regular Trinidad style rum and I can only recommend that you try it out because this is a well hidden gem for most.

Much wood in the nose. Alcoholic. Coconut. Very closed too. The alcohol surpresses other smells. It keeps that way. Its nutty. Reminds me of Oloroso sherry maturation. Musty dry and rubbery. Could be interesting but the alcohol is not well integrated. I do like the nuttiness though. Weird weird TDL.

The taste is clearly more pleasant than the nose. If the somewhat pungent smell would not be one could better perceive notes of dark chocolate. In the taste then clearly more fruity than in the nose and in addition warm notes of cocoa that condense with time. After a while in the glass clearly chocolate. At the beginning something meaty and cinnamon, which unfortunately does not really fit together. Must breathe in any case.

The nose is rather closed on tar and camphor, then after opening, the gourmandise tdl is very present. The palate opens with caramel, citrus, and cinnamon. Then the Madeira cask is discreet but still present, accompanied by beautiful hazelnut notes. Long finish on Madeira wine (spices/grapes).

en del mand i den flaske, fint køb til en plov

Fazit: Angenehm an Nase und Gaumen, mit typischen Aromen eines Trinidad Rums, lässt Federn, weil er nicht so komplex ist und noch intensiver schmecken könnte.

Read full review →I don't think the Madeira has totally masked the rum but it does have quite a big influence on what was likely quite a gentle spirit to begin with. From the nose I though the sulphur like notes might have taken over but they hung back on the sip. A...
