Overripe banana and glue on the nose, then the wood takes over — 36 tropical years leave their mark. On the palate it's charred oak, licorice and bitter grapefruit peel, with dark chocolate and currants pushing back through the tannins. Full-throttle at 62.3%, this is old Clarendon at its most wood-heavy. Fans of long-aged Jamaicans love it; if you don't want the oak running the show, look elsewhere.

Lots of glue and tropical fruit basket on the nose. Wood is present, but just right considering the age. Very nice! In the mouth then much less fruit, now the oak dominates. I really like the rum on the nose. The rest is wood.

I think this one will raise a stir during tasting. I do like Jamaican rums thus the high score. Leave to rest for at least 15 minutes in order to release all the flavours. Molasses and fruits get to your nose first, then comes the funk and woody vanilla and some varnish. The palate is nice and strong. Burnt wood with fruit, chocolate and caramel in the front. Then you get hit by subtle tobacco, mint and licorice. The finish is long and stays with you for a long while. Charred wood with currants and wonderful chocolate.

Very powerful! Long tropical aging clearly shows and delivers heavily on wood. Wood and fruits are battling it out on the palate with familiar Clarendon spices lingering in the picture. Not quite as complex as the Velier Rum Sapiens bottlings, but still very much my cup of tea. Admittedly there is a lot of wood. If this is not what you prefer this might not be quite for you.

Exciting number, very bitter, fruity and complex. 1984 Clarendon as it is written in the book but with significantly more sweetness than the newer or even older representatives from Velier and Plantation. Dark mocha, herbs like sage and thyme, old overripe banana, grapefruit peel, menthol and camphor as well as solvents and sweet and sour currants. Intense stuff!!

Rum tasted at GRF in Berlin in 2026. A powerful nose, fruity and heavily woody. Lots of overripe banana and a solvent/glue side which darkens the rum with the wood. On the palate the power remains with still marked wood but also more complex and present fruits (banana and citrus) with spices that bring a nice complexity. The finish is long but rather one-dimensional, marked by wood and its bitterness. At the very end, surprisingly, the citrus side resurfaces.

A wonderful full-bodied old Jamaican. Orange cure and wood on the nose. On the palate, the start is pinch, wood and liquorice. Lovely long finish in the mouth
