It's a Port Mourant with a sweet-wine twist: damp oak and cellar on the nose, then chocolate-cherry, dried apricot and prune, with a whiff of solvent underneath. The palate runs dark and honeyed, a bitter black-tea-and-wood note carrying the long, dry finish.

8,4:On the nose, solvents, dried apricots, grapes, cherry, grapes, sweet, roasted wood notes like walnuts, chocolate, caramel, dark molasses with licorice, black tea, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, it becomes thick, candied, prunes, berries are out, vegetal molasses with soy sauce, earthy, leather, Demerara sugar and pastry join, some vanilla.Barrel impact is obvious. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is dry, sweet, tannic with Sauternes cask impact, so fruity with grapes, citrus, dried fruits like raisins, prunes, apricots, perhaps plums, roasted oak notes like chocolate, nuts, pastry, caramel, leather, Demerara sugar, spicy with allspice, molasses is minty, herbaceous, flowery, earthy, dark with black, vegetal with eucalyptus hints, sweet with honey. 8,3:The finish is long, dry&tannic, slightly dirty, sulphurous, with Sauternes notes nicely pairing Demerara Rum.

Much nicer than the port cask finish (rx3456) tasted at the same time ... there is more of the PM here and everything is a little more harmonious. The earthy-sweet nose puts you in a good mood. Then ok on the palate. Better on the bottom line, but not a high-flyer either.

Today testing the Last Cask series from El Dorado RX6784 RX13225 RX13396 RX5449 RX3456 and RX6785. Summed up, all quite solid bottlings but unfortunately did not quite meet expectations. In my opinion, the pricing is a bit too high.

#5890 25.10.2025 Getting ready to go to Copenhagen for tonights event at the old newspaper press. Nose Wood, light roasted, dried fruit, light varnish, light nutts, light chocolate, light plum, faint caramel, light cherry. Palate Oily, warm, wood, light roasted, light chocolate, prunes, vanilla, light caramel, faint floral, medium sweet, light leather. Finish Medium long, oily, wood, light chocolate, light coffee, light cherry. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, raisin, light prunes, light caramel, light leather. Adding a few drops of water opens up a lot of extra flavours.

31-08-2025 - Rate 8.5 German Rum Festival Last El Dorado was from Port Mourant. Usually not my favorite, but this one was ok. Nose with fruit, wood and leather. Palate with wood, leather and plum. Medium finish dominated by wood and spice. 12-09-2025 - Rate 8.6 11-02-2026 - Rate 8.7

PM comes through on the nose. In the mouth I had a present acidity. Possibly due to a certain ester content. Something of ripe papayas on the finish, otherwise chocolate with herbs. I don't really know Sauternes, which is why I can't filter out the influence.

Already very good! The finish is quite present, lots of wood as well, but on the other hand, a PM can handle that quite well.

Impressive color, which immediately raises certain expectations - only to be destroyed by the Sauternes finish. Don't get me wrong, but a Port Mourant finished in sweet wine has lost quite a bit of the typical Demerara qualities, it feels flatter than other bottlings, and the finish leaves little of the woody, bitter character. Candied fruits, light notes of burnt sugar, and at the end some red berries and a bit of cask. Nice - but not a must-have.

Smells initially strongly of damp wood and cellar, like some Armagnac. Then nice chocolate-cherry and also something almost gummy-like blackcurrant. On the palate rather dark, honey, some dark fruit, a bit bitter. Black tea with honey fits quite well. This bitter tea/wood note also dominates the finish. I found it especially interesting on the nose and also pleasant on the palate. Has many facets. Only the price is too high, 100€ would be okay. #37:260201
