Saint James Hors d'Age

Most tasters land on "a nice agricole" — grassy, floral, dry, with real oak from the aging. But opinions split on two things: several find it a touch watered-down at 43%, and that metallic, bitter edge divides people. One member's first agricole ever, another says it drifts toward a young cognac. Expect sugarcane, wood, citrus and a distinct mineral, metallic note.

The community says
  • Classic agricole profile
  • Woody, aged depth
  • But: Metallic bitterness

unfortunately not my cup of tea, very woody, metallic and sharp-edged and goes more in the direction of a very young brandy/cognac. too bad.

My first introduction to Agricole rum. A good if somewhat special introduction. This rum does have some metallic tones that may be a little annoying. Top in Ti Punch!!!!!!!

Solid agricole with a typical floral profile, but somewhat sharp and quite bitter/sour in the mouth. The chocolate and fruit notes are always present, as well as a certain tobacco/smoky aroma.

Toller Agricole, bei dem sich die Floralität gar nicht aufdrängt. Das Alter bringt sich mit den fassigen Holznoten und Früchten gut ein, der Rum hat eine angenehme, metallische Bitternote und ist sehr trocken.

Actually a nice Agricole, fine fruitiness, slightly woody, but too diluted for my taste. There are better things...

Saint James

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 250 Rums

Saint-James is Martinique's biggest distillery and one of the oldest names in bottled rum, founded in 1765 and still selling a square bottle it trademarked in 1882. It holds the largest stock of aged rhum in the French Antilles, runs what may be the world's best distillation museum, and its old vintages and J. Bally bottlings are among the most loved Martinique rums on RumX.
