Very light and quite pleasant, this rum comes from the Varela Hermanos distillery in Panama (known for its Abuelo rums in particular). I don't buy Spanish-style rums with the expectation of having a flavor bomb where every taste takes me on a journey. No, they have their special place and are much appreciated by me as good companions when you want to sip something easy and unpretentious. This rum does the job brilliantly. If one wanted to be a little combative one could say that this is no more than an abuelo 7 ans (from 31€) with a noveau jolie bouteille sold for 62€. But I'm going to be a little more charitable than that because I love discovering and helping a new small bottler like Zaka. Hope to see more of them in the future. It's far from the quality of my favorite Dominican Republic brands, but in the end it's not a failure either. Pleasant Spanish, no more and no less. See you next time guys 😉

Smell not typical rum, little too much ethanol smell for me at first; tastes completely different than it smells. Tastes great.

A little softer in flavor than Zaka Trinidad. Okay

Typically sweet and molasses-like an Abuelo, there are also some faint woody, chocolate and slightly spicy notes with dried fruit, but it leaves a lot to be desired
